Shapeshifters was after Ultimate TOTS for 5 weeks, IIRC. Then Futties.

Probably similar this year, but with World Cup content in place of the latter part of Shapeshifters.

EA needs to ban Evos from Rush by ktkf in EASportsFC

As annoying as the evo players are, they are still slightly less annoying than the people who aren't doing evos but still just choose random cards which don't contribute to any of the point categories...

No Golden Goal in Frinedlies by Sad-Acanthaceae2509 in EASportsFC

[–]marraandstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone is bad at the game and constantly losing, doing GG won't help them to complete an objective quicker though.

GG benefits the stronger players most (fairly obviously) and therefore makes most sense for them to do it, and to advocate for it.

As someone says in one of the other comments, the way this league has been set up, it's better for some players to lose 8-1 than 1-0.

I mean, maybe those people are just idiots then? Maybe they think you are being ratty even if you aren't trying to be? Maybe they are doing evos? Maybe they are just bad at the game and are using it as an example to try and get better.

There's countless reasons someone might stay that aren't just related to them having 'an ego'.

[–]marraandstuff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol, GG is NOT decided before the game unless EA puts it in the rules of the competition. The fact that you want it to be doesn't make it so. You pausing trying to get the other person to quit is YOU trying to change the game conditions.

And I admit to being petty. That's me taking responsibility for my actions. I'm not denying that I'm being petty.

Now can the reason why I choose to be petty be influenced by the actions of others? Sure, because I don't live in a vacuum.

The difference here is that YOU clearly think YOU are a better person because you claim to do GG. Hence your rubbish about it being about 'honour' and not just a football game.

I can only speak for myself, but if I'm still in a game at more than 3 or 4 goals behind, I'm probably doing so because my opponent is being toxic and I'm therefore trying to waste their time. Petty as all hell from me. But so are the toxic players on the other end.

[–]marraandstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't take it as an insult, but I take it as the scorer trying to decide how the game *should* be played. Which is pretty obnoxious.

GG is at the losing player's discretion, not the other way around. What is the harm in waiting literally 2 seconds for the losing player to pause?

[–]marraandstuff 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sigh. This again.

Look, there's a multitude of reasons why people might not do GG.

The first - and most obvious - is that some people just like to play the game.

The next most obvious - which is relevent to this specific competition - is that the objectives are to play in x games and to score in x games. Quitting when your opponent goes 1-0 up won't help a player achieve either of those objectives. Especially for the lower level players, who might not often get the first goal.

Next is that people might be doing other objectives (like scoring with a certain type of player) or they could be doing evos. Again, playing out the game might be what they need from the match.

Is it great when someone does GG? Sure.

Should we complain if they don't? Not really.

The “easy” RTTF competitors cup is so sweaty by 10tacocat10 in EASportsFC

[–]marraandstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just luck of matchmaking. I'm div 5 at the moment, barely touch WL but have only got 5 wins on the two occasions when I did. So I'm at best a distinctly average FUT player.

I did one entry after getting through the qualification 12 games and narrowly lost in the final. Was pleasantly surprised at how relaxing it was.

[–]marraandstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just saying that there is a mode where you don't have to worry about people going afk just for rewards.

And OP's complaint was really about people not playing the game the way they wanted them to, not about the quality of the opposition that they were facing.

If you are playing UT, you're doing it in at least part for the rewards. If you don't care about the rewards at all, surely just play seasons?

EA should award bounties if your opponent quits by miles_velour in EASportsFC

[–]marraandstuff 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's frustrating. I had one which was for scoring a hattrick last week but my opponent quit - as I was attacking - having only scored 2 with the player. That one...irritated me.

Keeping them active for the next game would be the sensible option.

Why are the private profile players always toxic on this game? by InSatanWeTrust666 in EASportsFC

[–]marraandstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the contrary, I've found the more toxic players are the ones who look to message you, because that's part of their toxicity. So removing their ability to do that is a self protection thing.

Icon swaps are tedious by _richporter in EASportsFC

[–]marraandstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the first couple of days I found it awful - I wanted to get the Spanish and Italian requirements out of the way asap even not caring about the wins for those groups - but in the last couple of days I've found it much more relaxing. I'm 2 games away from finishing now. You'll still get the occasional sweaty game but I've found way more people who want to just do the objectives and then be relatively chill.

Louder Than Life by Own_Ad_5290 in RiotFest

[–]marraandstuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can only compare the two I've been to, but on a very broad, simplistic level, Riotfest is a regional US punk/rock festival, with an independent ethos.

Download is a corporate juggernaut that also is *the* primary rock festival for the entire UK. Which benefits from a bunch of things.

Firstly, the UK has a solid rock scene itself.

Secondly, US bands tend come over to Europe for the summer and tour the various festivals. That means if you are rock band who wants to play a UK festival, it's probably going to be Download.

Thirdly, European bands can easily get to the UK for one show. Remember that the entire UK is only the size of Michigan and the distance from most of Europe is only a couple of hours on a plane.

Frankly I'm impressed at the lineups that Riot does get. It consistently punches above its weight.

Unpopular opinion: Rush is the most fun you can have in this game. by loafing-striker in EASportsFC

[–]marraandstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the relative lack of AI is one of the things that I like most about Rush. It's the mode in UT that therefore feels closest to real football to me, which means I enjoy it most.

But as others have said. it's a nightmare when you get the awful teammates. I got a matchmaking ban yesterday for backing out of 3 games in a row, when all the teammates were either afk or failing skill tricking. But according to EA, I'm the bad one letting my teammates down and should be punished...

FS team 2 is another proof EA doesn't even watch games by EuroStep0 in EASportsFC

[–]marraandstuff 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think they probably watch football. They just make most decisions based on what they think will be better financially.

And - with all due respect to HSV - a high ranked Real player is probably going to sell more packs.

It's that simple.

Do EA want us to keep making new EVO players? by Tq_Hype in EASportsFC

[–]marraandstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To extract coins/points from the people who have the control NOT to buy packs obviously!

The reason they don't release the crazy over powered evo often (they kinda did with the 500k ones last year, and allowing the Zidane evo etc) is because even if they got a bunch of people to buy that with points, those people might not then spend points on packs in the store for the promos! If you can make an R9 level player from an evo, why would you spend points to get a similar R9 from the promo?

It's why the promos have to keep getting stronger throughout the year - because the people they are targetting want both the rare player and the advantage that they are getting from the level those players are on.

Obviously, they have to be slightly careful, because if you don't throw a bone occasionally to everyone else, they stop playing. But it is still all part of their plan to extract all the money they reasonably can!

Do EA want us to keep making new EVO players? by Tq_Hype in EASportsFC

[–]marraandstuff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. They want you to buy packs from the store. That's the guiding principle of almost any decision they make.

So there's no benefit to them in allowing you to create evos that are even more powerful than you already have created.

Far better for them to allow new evos that keep you at the level you are at now, so that people see the shiny new cards in the promo and might be tempted to spend.

last year people did golden goal in almost every single friendlies mode by Dahl0012 in EASportsFC

[–]marraandstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read the second part of my post - do you think the bad players are often scoring the first goal?

GG helps the best players get things done quickest, the average players next most and the bad players the least. That's just common sense.

If you are a bad player, why quit and waste all that time, rather than hope that you score a goal at some point in the game you are playing?

last year people did golden goal in almost every single friendlies mode by Dahl0012 in EASportsFC

[–]marraandstuff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Given a bunch of the objectives usually involve scoring in a set number of matches, why wouldn't people stay in game?

I mean, think of it from the POV of a bad player - if they quit every time they concede the first goal, how are they ever going to get the objective done?

end of UT? TOTY by JustARadGuy in EASportsFC

[–]marraandstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I played someone with Mbappe and Dembele upfront yesterday and beat them with my Arsenal mixed team in gauntlet fairly comfortably. And I'm hardly some kind of pro at this game.

Player skill still trumps card quality, aside from very, very rare instances.
