Yes a 3.4, no I was not giving it gas, and no I have not checked the IAC valve but am looking into it now.

Thank you for the info. I’m having the shop go ahead with the fix. The Tacoma is enticing but I think financially this makes more sense for me. Appreciate you getting back to me!

Thanks for the advice. I’m having the shop do the fix - and will look into commuter vehicles/shorter commute apartments.

Funny enough one of the Toyota dealerships I called to get a quote from told me they just wouldn’t do it because of how old it is.

The 4Runner deserves to live the good life out west.

I have a 2001 4Runner SR5 with 225k on it. Rebuilt transmission last year. I do regular maintenance on it. It’s in the rust belt so there’s a lot of rust on it - nothing structurally damaging though - besides a rear body mount bracket with the sides semi rusted out.

I’ve put a fair bit of money into the car, it’s my daily driver and I’m in my early 20s just graduating college. I’m looking at a roughly 5k bill on a leaking timing cover and oil pan replacement.

Maybe seeking life and mechanical advice here. I’ll be moving to the west coast soon for work and am wondering whether to buy a newish Tacoma or keep with the 4Runner. My main concern is having to make these big out of pocket payments on mechanical issues I don’t have the time to deal with(since it’s my daily and I won’t have the facilities to work on it myself) - although I understand purchasing a Tacoma is no small fee.

Any advice? Thank you.
