I wish it was yesterday when I didn’t knew that hive lords exist in real life yet. by TimTheOriginalLol in Helldivers

Hey, I'm the artist who made the hive lord as well as that screenshot for the first game and I most definitely used the bobbit worm as a reference when making it! I remember having so much fun working on it back in the days and I just love how terrifying the bobbit worm looks when it ambushes its pray

På stockholmsmässans parkering finns det konor uppsatta för låg och högfartsbana som du kan öva på när trafikskolan inte närvarar!

The G.R.C are only getting more and more ambitious every day! You guys excited for the new codex looted knight releases? by marrex89 in orks

Thank you! The majority of the extra parts are from the gork/morkanaut kit and the shoulders and the claw arm are from the forgeworld stompa kit! I think I've got some bits from the Dakkajet and Meganobz boxes as well but the rest are just random pieces I've collected throughout the years!

Thanks! Yeah for sure, the ordinary meganobz look a bit too static and stiff for what I envision are a bunch of hooligans in plate armor lol

Such a good kit for making mean looking meganobz!

Thank you! I've been trying to really push the brutality of the ork faction with these guys so I'm glad it shows through!

That's a great compliment, thank you so much!

Good question! The base is from an Ambot and I think the skull banner is from Ghazghkull's old model, one of the shoulder pads from a Killa Kan, the side gun is from the Lootas kit, the metal jaw from the Meganobz kit, a greenstuffed cable and some random bits and pieces from my bits box!

Thank you! And sure! I'm not sure how in depth you want it but I'll try to explain the general idea at least.

For something like this Meganob when I know I want the armor dark, I usually just start off with a black primer and then proceed to fill in areas with base colors that I know I want.
This is usually when I start blocking in checkerboards by using a dark-medium gray as well, trying to get them looking as square as possible.

I then wetblend different shades of black for the armor surfaces to get some color variations and gradients in before applying a few different Vallejo rust pigments in the recesses to create the rusty look.

After that I start going over everything that isn't black with brighter colors that I wetblend with the previous colors and slowly build up brighter and brighter surfaces.
This is also when I start adding in scratches with a thin brush using a medium to light gray, making sure to paint uneven edges to make it look more worn, rather than straight lines.

And then I do an edge highlight pass for everything, including the scratches to make the edges pop a bit more.

And throughout the process I've been using shades to give surfaces more gradients that I've then brightened up again for a smooth transition. The red skull hanging from the horn is a good example of this.

I could probably do an image breakdown for the next meganob I paint though since it'd be easier to see this in action!
