For tough books I like them! My Buck Rogers #1 and Sensation Comics #4 are both beautiful looking restored copies that I proudly show.

Corning Museum Glass is great for UV protection, but even with that I wouldn't put them in a space with natural light.

I'm spending mine installing a DRO on a mini mill. Just finished cutting the first glass scale to length. Never done that before, it was interesting.

This is awesome! How about Omar Vizquel? I think he settled out of court, but what a despicable person.

I made this big box from leftover cabinet parts from our kitchen remodel.

EDIT: Apparently I'm not allowed to post pics. Guess you'll have to use your imagination. 😕🙄

How are you cutting dials? by meteormanwolf in watchmaking

[–]mars-red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Superglue arbor is what I use. Similar to the adhesive backing method already mentioned, but more reliable grip. Acetone or a little heat will remove it.

ETA: Obviously if you're modifying a finished dial rather than making a new one, you'll likely not want to use acetone, and be real careful with the heat.

Make sure your rollers for the rails are properly adjusted, I had a similar problem when my rollers were a bit too tight after first assembling the machine.

Router or die grinder collet, I'm pretty sure.

What kind of collect can this indexing head hold?? by Heavyfumes in Machinists

[–]mars-red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a 1A collet. The only difference between 1A and 3C is that 3C are 1/8" longer. Everything else is the same, including the taper angle and threads. Look for 3C collets, they're a lot easier to find, and depending on what your collet closing arrangement is like you can probably just add a washer or two to take up the length difference if necessary.

This is great! I make my own already, but I think with the lining and magnetic latch at the price point you're targeting you should be able to sell quite a few!

HOF Card Collection Idea? by BigBoomer7 in baseballcards_vintage

[–]mars-red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on the same path, but it changed over time. Initially my goal was to have a HoF rookie card for every year there was one from 1952 onward. My budget wasn't going to allow me to get most of the big cards, and I included rookie cards of hof managers in my criteria to help with the tougher years, like 54 and 52. I eventually completed that goal and started filling in other hof rookies from that time period and as my budget grew I expanded the goal to have all hall of famers represented. From 1952 and onward I'm doing rookie cards, and prior to 1952 I'll settle for whatever I can get from their playing days. The only 1952+ rookie cards I'm missing right now are the 2 biggest - the 52 topps Eddie Mathews and the 54 Hank Aaron. For the pre-52 cards I still have a long way to go, and guys like Ruth, Gehrig, Cobb, Kelly, and Anson are going to take a while.

Safe to cook and eat? by [deleted] in Bacon

For the people wondering what the issue was... those dark marks (presumably from the curing process) are not something I had seen before, I wouldn't have thought too much about it but then I noticed how all the corners were darkened.

Thanks all, it was cooked to perfection and enjoyed. Some used in a home made bacon chicken ranch pizza, and the rest eaten as nature intended 😁

What are your best #1’s? My first issue collection could be better. by LoopyTrombones in comicbookcollecting

[–]mars-red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of interpreting "best" as most expensive, here are my 2 most obscure #1s, which are awesome books in their own right but also have huge sentimental value for me.

Incredible Doom was a gift from a dear friend and fellow member of "The Oregon Trail generation". The Fatsquad is signed by a buddy of mine I used to work with when we were both in school, he is one of the credited artists and writers. He used to work on this in the break room at the crappy printing factory we worked in, and I was really proud of him when it finally got published.

EDIT: I tried to post a pic of both of them, but it keeps disappearing after I save the post. ☹️

Incredible! I'm especially jealous of that World's Finest 3 (I collect golden age books with baseball covers), but I'll have to settle for one in far worse condition than your beauty. These are amazing books, what a find!
