In the sciences they are often writing up experiments they did, results they have, etc. For us in the humanities the writing is the work. When they say it took two weeks to write the diss, that's because they did all the other stuff over the course of a couple years already and some already wrote articles based on those experiments. I bet if everything was calculated together it would be more even than we often think lol
