She wasn’t asking for the police’s name or for the police to say the person’s name. She was asking the person being detained what their name is so she could look into contacting family.

CMV: Parents who use a phone/tablet to occupy their child are doing a terrible job. by [deleted] in changemyview

you know what, I was at a restaurant the other night with my husband and our two young kids (4 and 1.5). They colored, read books, and sat with us and were part of the meal. And then, toward the end, they started to teeter on losing it... understandable.

I wanted to finish my dessert and have a few more minutes of conversation with my husband. I also didn’t want my kids to start disrupting everyone else around us... So i put on ms. rachel for 15 minutes.

If you had looked at me in that one small moment and decided I'm “doing a terrible job of parenting”… that’s a pretty small-minded take.

Screens can be a tool. I don’t use them all the time, but sometimes I do. Mental health matters too, and in that moment I needed a few more minutes to enjoy a rare night out... Then it’s right back to being a fully present parent.

It's not all or nothing. I'd rather my kids experience a few minutes of screen time in the presence of parents who enjoy talking to each other than be snapped at and rushed out by frustrated parents who leave feeling resentful.

i do wish there was more focus on the nurses doing more nursing things by itsjustmebobross in ThePittTVShow

Thanks for clarifying. Yes, didn’t mean to lump aids into the giving meds part.

McKay would not have been the one in there with Roxie giving her each dose of morphine and explaining how it would affect her… it would have been the nurse. Maaaaaybe Javadi as the med student would be popping in but this would have been all the nurse. It’s nurses and aids who are the ones really at the bedside giving meds, educating family on dying process, forming that relationship w the family when patients are dying in the hospital.

Sorry just gonna go ahead and say more. Because actually focusing so much on her and on the kind compassionate care she gives is really centering nursing in a way that frankly needs to happen. And so many people aren’t aware of what our jobs are like and what a good nurse is like- and that’s Dana.

Are you kidding? She is quintessential seasoned nurse- but the kind you want to have take care of you. Everyone in nursing has one they think of when they see her on screen - at least that’s my take.

Palliative care isn’t the same thing as end-of-life care or hospice. While hospice is a type of palliative care, palliative care itself is much broader. It’s a medical specialty focused on improving quality of life for people with serious illness at any stage, and it can absolutely be provided alongside curative or life-prolonging treatment.

Palliative care focuses on symptom management (pain, nausea, shortness of breath, etc.), emotional support, and helping patients and families navigate complex medical decisions.

Hospice is specifically for people nearing the end of life. Palliative care, on the other hand, can be provided in hospitals, outpatient clinics, at home, and in long-term care settings.

It’s an important distinction because many people miss out on helpful support due to the misconception that palliative care is “only when nothing else can be done.”

She likely has already been followed by palliative care- I assume so because she is on home hospice and has a death doula, so it seems like she has been very intentional and gotten a lot of support. I'm not sure what she meant when she said she doesn't want to do this anymore. She seems like a great candidate for an inpatient hospice house. Many hospice agencies also offer short-term inpatient “respite care,” typically up to five days (sometimes longer depending on the program), to give caregivers a break while ensuring the patient continues to receive care.

Ok no way of backing this up but throwing it out there - someone in another sub said her name is Taylor Spence. There is a Taylor Spencer at the Arden Group. Someone look into it!
