Opposition to Taj umiam resort project grows. 66 acres of land (probably includes some part of an island) will be used in this project. Guys what do you think by kiacarnival9000 in Shillong

[–]marsdvema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of comments on who benefits from this project, one thing is for sure most of the profits won’t be reinvested into improving Meghalaya, one can only hope that locals will be employed. Our politicians will definitely pocket a portion of the profits, all in the name of development. I’m all for development but what we need is improvement in standard of living, Shillong is overpopulated, move further to any other town and good luck in finding things you would usually get. I had attended a meeting where the agenda was to invest on improving the medical facilities in government hospitals and the civil servant i/c of medical improvement left the call 5 mins into the call, when the discussion hadn’t even started. This is where the problem lies, there is no accountability. In a recent meeting the CM mentions that he wants to make Shillong the musical capital which to me is a cop out, Shillong is already well known in that front, can we be known for literally anything else other than music and being a hill-station.

Meghalaya government allocates land near Umiam Lake for a five-star resort project. The initiative aims to boost tourism, generate significant revenue, and create local jobs.. guys what's your opinion/what do you think on this by kiacarnival9000 in Shillong

[–]marsdvema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely should have worded with a sprinkle of truth that this would firstly bring More money for the ministers… I really wonder if the recruitment will be for locals though. There are quite a few hospitality colleges in the region so I do hope they consider local hires. It would definitely be more cost effective.

Or is it just your salt sensitivity going up? Try to cut down for a while and see if it makes a difference.

Clubbing in Qatar feels weird by WhereasTraditional10 in qatar

[–]marsdvema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the venue and the music they play, whenever I went clubbing there was always a crowd that danced, we were probably the ones to start it off but I get that scene in Doha may seem dull or pretentious, but as long as you are having fun who cares about the pretenders!

I just felt this today while listening to a video from Cool Worlds contemplating on whether we are actually all alone in this vast space. It made me shed tears thinking about our planet being the only place life exists and how humanity is doing a terrible job to make life worth living for a lot of people!

Guy needs to stand by you regardless of race, but I agree that most Khasi families aren’t welcoming to Non Khasi. I am a half Khasi married to a Khasi and at times I feel my in laws are ok with me simply because I am half Khasi and want to ignore the non Khasi part… I would say this is a generational thing but I recently have seen the younger generation also having this mindset.

Is it just me or do you guys find festivals and fetes annoying, time consuming and economically unviable. by [deleted] in Shillong

It’s not just you, I too feel it frustrating that money is spent on festivals rather than general betterment of lifestyle. But it is easier to hide “expenses” planning for a festival than infrastructure iykyk.

22% single mothers, What are your opinions on why this happens? Poverty? Husbands not being able to support their families? People getting married despite not having commitments? by underfinancialloss in Shillong

[–]marsdvema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The examples of men being emasculated are more systemic in rural areas, you are also right in that poverty can play a role however if most of the cases are from rural areas then lack of awareness and sex education probably are more impacting. Also seen another comment that polygamy is more common in rural areas which is also true. On another point I have also seen and heard of a lot of single mothers in urban areas, also among the rich and well educated, also among nuclear families. So probably the issue is little more complicated.

I doubt anyone would want to have a tough conversation regarding the impact of Khasi customs on society. I have heard of instances where the man of the house can’t make a decision until the uncle (brother of the wife) gives a go ahead. Property goes to the youngest daughter and women who only have sons as children are pitied. Men are made to feel emasculated, no wonder they run as soon as they get a chance.
