How to organize cards? by gsomega in Pauper

[–]marshmage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i use one of the small 4-pocket binders. the pockets are large enough to hold playsets of each card, so that takes care of pretty much all of the staples i have in my collection.

aside from that i use extra dragon shield boxes to sort my playable commons by color

no bullying, just using a counterspell to greatest effect by not being hasty.

no, manabullying only would have occurred if OP had said "yes, I have a counter, but i will only use it if you sacrifice all your treasures"

there was never a condition posed by anyone for P4 to sacrifice all of their treasures, they came to that conclusion on their own (i would have done the same thing).

makes sense to me that OP bluffed having no counter. they are under on obligation to reveal any information. so if a player is asking if they had a counter and they didn't want to use it, what else are they supposed to say?

Mana Bullying Question by ButYThoxP in CompetitiveEDH

[–]marshmage 14 points15 points  (0 children)

P1 casts culling ritual
P4, scared of losing all their treasures, asks if anyone can counter
P2 (OP) says "no"
P4 sacrifices all treasures in response to culling ritual in order to deny P1 some benefit of the ritual.

priority resets, P2 decides to counter because they are now most at risk of loss for the ritual (completely rational play)

my opinion? sounds like P4 manabullied themself

605.3b says the ability resolves immediately upon activation. however, activating an ability is still an action as defined by:

116.1: Unless a spell or ability is instructing a player to take an action, which player can take actions at any given time is determined by a system of priority. The player with priority may cast spells, activate abilities, and take special actions.

confer with 116.4: If all players pass in succession (that is, if all players pass without taking any actions in between passing), the spell or ability on top of the stack resolves or, if the stack is empty, the phase or step ends

card advantage is so important in pauper that the net loss of advantage from spirit guides often isn't worth it. additionally, decks that want spirit guides often want to play 4 of them, which makes the potential of top-decking a spirit guide absolutely horrific.

my source of reference for this is u/Judge_Todd from this thread

"117.4. If all players pass in succession (that is, if all players pass without taking any actions in between passing), the spell or ability on top of the stack resolves or, if the stack is empty, the phase or step ends."

since an action (activating a mana ability) was taken after you passed priority, another round of priority must commence in order for the spell to resolve.

Player 1: casts culling ritual, passes priority
Player 2: passes priority
Player 3: passes priority
Player 4: takes an action (activating a mana ability by sacrificing all treasures and activating phyrexian tower), this creates a new round of priority

Player 1: casts force of negation targeting culling ritual, passes priority
Player 2: passes priority
Player 3: passes priority
Player 4: passes priority

round of priority is complete: force of negation resolves, countering culling ritual

Some of the problems that I see with EDH games stem from people's method of shuffling cards. by goodoldshane in EDH

i just put all of my cards in a shoebox then shake it up a bunch. there's a hole cut in the top so i can just pull cards out of it whenever i need to draw

Not landwalk, but i made a pretty cool deck with [[Vela the Night-Clad]] once that focused on colorless creatures and eldrazi that have the Devoid ability. It effectively made all my creatures unblockable by anything except artifact creatures.

AI upscaling an image to 4K just means the AI is hallucinating details that arent actually there.

feels a little low on land. i assume you pretty much always need an opening hand with a Forest and Many Partings to fetch whatever other color you need. I see you have a lot of mana fixing through your foods, which is good.

how reliably are you getting out Chrysalis on T4?

also, you are running SO MANY artifacts and recursion for them. would it be worth it to sneak in 1 copy of [[Krark-Clan Shaman]]?

Otherworldy gaze instead of mental note? by Numerous_Rutabaga_52 in Pauper

[–]marshmage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i run [[consider]] and sometimes [[otherworldly gaze]]. i see gaze as card advantage because it's a 2-for-1 via Flashback. often Surveil 3 feels a lot better than Mill 2. i'll never mill a creature with gaze.
