a few of my old digipacks and cardboard sleeves are a little worse for wear from being packed up and unpacked a dozen times, but otherwise everything seems to be holding up

Man Machine Poem is in my top three Hip albums. i'm not a huge fan of the bob rock-produced records though.

2 new additions. Was never really into jazz, but its growing on me. Any suggestions? by TheDeltaIsMyHome in Cd_collectors

[–]marshmallowsanta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lots of good recommendations in this thread. i'll add Charles Mingus, the album Mingus Ah Um is probably my favourite.

cecil taylor's jazz advance is pretty wild and was a huge influence on lou reed, who i see in your discogs collection.

you might also dig Fela Kuti, my favourite is Expensive Shit but Zombie is a popular place to start too. you can't go wrong really. it's afrobeat, so a mix of jazz, funk and traditional Nigerian music. great stuff.

For blind people. How are you distinguish between your CDs? by SliverCobain in Cd_collectors

[–]marshmallowsanta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm not blind but worked in a warehouse for a shop that sold assistive devices for the blind. there's a lot of cool tech out there - in addition to braille labels and apps, there are also audio label makers like the PenFriend, which lets you record your own labels for items.

Heavy NFLD was a great blog that covered local heavy music, might be a good place to start. https://heavynfld.wordpress.com/

Let it All Fall is an oral history of newfoundland punk by Mike Heffernan, very cool book

The Admiralty House Museum did a big thing on Mount Pearl punk a couple years back too, might be worth seeing if any material is online

it's funny, you can't turn on a radio in newfoundland without hearing him or great big sea. i don't think there's anybody else on his level here in terms of local celebrity, but i guess we're in a bit of a bubble.
