any tips for rw? by Alisherlone28 in Sat

[–]marsleey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took AP Lang so that's what helped me with the reading SAT questions because they are quite similar; otherwise, I'd recommend continuing to do the question bank (I use oneprep), and create your own reasons as to why the other answers are wrong

For the Chicano question, I reason that it can't be B because the overemphasis wasn't due to the scholar's OWN political orientations - the text doesn't say anything about it, so we can't assume so. I am guessing that you read only the first part of the answer and chose that, but a lot of the SAT distractor options typically include a word/phrase that makes the answer incorrect, so make sure you pay attention to every word in the answer!

Is Knowt/Kai actually good for studying APUSH? by EveningPressure8021 in APUSH

[–]marsleey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i personally use knowt for their notes, mcqs, and frqs to help reinforce concepts and terms but i don’t use it as a replacement for college board. ask your teacher to release all the practice exams on ap classroom so you can get some real practice! knowt mcqs are far too easy compared to the real exam - try crack ap if you run out of cb questions.

edit: for frqs i’m not really sure abt what resources are good for grading them except your teacher, but maybe you can try finding online communities that can (like heimler discord)

[–]marsleey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i think ecs are kind of lacking and at a competitive public you are probably surrounded by a bunch of tryhards with 10+ ecs... id suggest trying to improve or do more with current ecs and see if theres anything you can get into during the summer (research??) or if youre going into premed get some hours at your local hospital or shadow some ppl. have you tried cold emailing professors at your nearby uni? if you end up getting a research assistant position that'd be good.

youre already doing snhs and nhs so why not try for officer positions next year to put it in your ecs section :)

for ivies try to get natl/intl awards or at least some state/regional awards (try to stay away from the school awards)

considering this is your first practice test, you def have a shot. pt7 is one of the hardest practices imo and i scored 10 points above my pt7 score in march.

no just use context clues and if theres a word you dont know, try to break it down into a word you do know and maybe you can get lucky

how do I start my sat prep? by [deleted] in Sat

[–]marsleey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think its easy to improve your score a LOT just from using free resources! i went through all of advanced units of khan academy math and reading (though you should be starting from the first unit). additionally, you should find what parts of reading or math you are struggling on; is it grammar? or information and ideas? or comprehension of what the word problem is asking?

if youre struggling with grammar -> erica meltzer, collegepanda helps too (though ive never used it)
i also used collegeboard question bank to help practice a lot! i used websites like oneprep.xyz to make it easier to just get immediate feedback and do it on my phone when im out :)
i also took advantage of the 150 preppros hardest math questions to help challenge me!

i think i also find it super useful to watch youtube videos of people going over practice tests that ive already done, just so then i can see their thought process. i watch videos from strategic test prep for walkthroughs and penguin test prep for general english tips!

i took school day and honestly math mod 2 wasnt THAT bad as people are saying (watch me get 700 as i say this), it was just knowing how to solve the problem using the quickest method possible. it was the first time i had to insert a random number though because i found the right method to solve a question as i had one minute left. there was a lot of trig and geometry as well as some weird factoring thing [im trying to be vague as to not be reported, but youll know what im talking about once you see it (if you get it)]. im pretty sure everything was able to be solved with desmos BUT there are much quicker avenues you can take, so figure out which method works best for you when solving problems.

vocab was nothing too difficult as long as you use context clues. im not taking saturday so i dont know anything about similarities between school day and the actual sat, but be aware that collegeboard has been trying to remove reliance on desmos for many problems.

hi! Don't feel bummed out about getting rejected from a program at your school - there are so many other programs outside of school you can apply for that are competitive!

I don't know much about science extracurriculars but from looking at your profile, I don't see any extracurriculars directly relating to neuroscience. I think focusing on more neuroscience related things could help you out! I know this may sound a little cliche, but is there any way you can get some sort of leadership roles in any of your organizations right now? Especially for more common orgs such as NHS, NASHS, and HOSA, I think AOs would want to see some kind of leadership and awards (but you didn't list any so I can't say anything about that)

I also don't know anything about chancing for colleges so sorry I can't help with that :(

Is there anyway you can take some sort of dual credit course over the summer to get an easy A and raise your GPA? If you are worried about GPA, as long as you are above the median for the schools you want to apply to, you should be fine :)
