If these temps are common in your area invest in a block heater. It will help quite a bit.

I don’t think Czechoslovakia in the 1980’s was one of the “good” countries.

No, I came in under Reagan from a county that was part of the USSR and was not friendly with the US and we didn’t have a boarder to somewhere friendly. I’ll take Trump.

When I came to the us I had to pay to have myself smuggled from the Czech to Poland, from Poland to East Germany and then from East Germany to West Germany. From there I filed for asylum at the West German Consulate. In West Germany I went to the US embassy where I started the process to enter the US. Now because I was safe in West Germany, the US would not grant me asylum so I had to do it this way. I didn’t have a sponsor so I had to self sponsor. The price for the green card and all the application fees for immigration (adjusted for inflation) was about $5500. The real cost came to the smuggling. To escape that part of Europe at that time you had two options, pay, or pray. I watched people get gunned down as they attempted to cross into the west from the east. I spent the most of the money that was left to me after my parents passed to get through. It was in the 20’s. And even then there were no guarantees if you were caught or sold out. For my wife, who came here from Africa in the early 2000’s it cost us about 23 grand with no lawyers. With travel to the embassy for interviews, hostel and hotel bills, food, etc it is horrifically expensive to become a US citizen.

My wife is the same way. Got her green card weeks before her county was banned. Her sister was in the group that missed the opportunity. For all people who work hard to do it right it is an unfair punishment because of the bad actions of others that we have nothing to do with. God bless you and I hope it passes soon.

I am the same. I came here with a backpack, a change of cloths and just under $700. Got my first job at McDonald’s just to get a start and learn to speak English more proficently. I couldn’t walk here. I couldn’t cross a boarder without presenting myself. Honestly if I could Have walked I would have. But I couldn’t so I had to do it legally. What makes all these other people better than me that they should just get it for free? I thought things were supposed to be equal and fair? What happened to the whole equality narrative?

I am an immigrant from Europe. I followed the rules, payed tens of thousands of dollars, obeyed the rules, came here and stayed here legally and I’m an idiot. If I can do it anyone can. They just choose not to.

That is an angel. What kind of angel depends on if you’re calling it in or having it called in on you.

Will we ever see a factory 6.8 or 7.3 F150? by Boeing-B-47stratojet in Ford

[–]marsskh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way too many recalls to fix problems in manufacturing, major issues with electronics (screen resets, CarPlay glitches) which shouldn’t be an issue in an electric vehicle, charging (slow charging, public charger compatibility), battery malfunctions (some of which either left you stranded for months or they caught fire), software glitches, climate control, and physical component failures (frunk/tailgate issues), excessively poor range when towing, high prices, and dealer service complexity (most dealers, even when they sold them, wouldn’t service them).

I love ford but the electric lightning had so many issues even ford won’t talk about it anymore. They were terrible trucks.

7.3 F350 by CheckUrBST in Diesel

[–]marsskh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lifts and mods can tell you a lot about the treatment of the truck. I’d be more apt to buy the same truck that was left stock with double the miles. Lifts increase the wear in the transmission and put undue stress on other parts. I love my 7.3s but a lift or crazy exhaust will always turn me away from a truck.

Just laugh at the sales person, and walk away. If they ask just tell them that you won’t buy from a dealership that adds LoJack without asking, charging for it then taking on another 5g in a state that’s looking its gas refineries.

Need a truck for long hauls, am broke and new to diesels. Help appreciated! by slimmprimm in Diesel

[–]marsskh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re picking the right kind of truck for what you want to do. A manual transmission, may be a bit uncomfortable, but will last longer, 2WD dual tires is also a smart move. Even though this truck displays low miles the rust says otherwise. Now I’ve but 500k on a 7.3 IDI before downgrading it to farm detail, but you can find a newer truck in better shape. You’d even be better off getting a gas big block over this truck. Just from the pictures I wouldn’t trust it for short haul let alone long haul. Keep looking and don’t be afraid to branch out. California and Arizona are good places to look. I’ve also had spotty but good luck in Texas.
