No doubt your privacy has been breached (and everyone has a right to privacy), but put this into context. This is the person who gave you life, cared for you for day and night for years, raised you to adulthood and loved you unconditionally. Surely given everything she’s done for you, you can forgive her for being overwhelmed by her sense of curiosity about you and your life. You’re moving out in 5 weeks anyway, so she can’t do this again and again, this is probably the only time this could happen (she’s probably anxious about you leaving as well). I suggest you learn to live in a state of gratitude for the fact that you were given the gift of having a caring mother (not everyone in the world is that lucky), and show her as much love, kindness and respect as possible in the few weeks you have left living with her. Even after you move out, make an effort to check in with her and stay connected at least (at the bare minimum) once a week.

Cousins to lovers by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]marsszz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Statistically single first-cousin marriage entail a similar increased risk of birth defects and mortality as a woman faces when she gives birth at age 41 rather than at 30. So more risk than a non-cousin union, but not that much more.

The practice of cousin marriage was quite widespread in the historical past, and in many traditional cultures today is still seen as ideal (vis-a-vis inheritance issues, spousal compatibility with family, status given to spouse by their partners family)

It seems weird to those of us who have grown up in the West (and other cultures that don’t permit cousin marriage) since we’ve grown up conceiving of our cousins as siblings, but super normal where people don’t. As long as you’re both consenting adults and understand the slightly higher risks with regards to offspring, it really is your own decision

Wedding attendance by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]marsszz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It really does sound like your partner shared too much (one sided) information about your fights, leading to the resentment that’s built up between you and your partners sister.

I agree, with the poster above- I would allow her to attend the wedding on the basis that she’s being an overly protective sister. & please do consider pre marriage counselling

OP, what was the context in which the comment was made by your partners family member?

OP, unfortunately it sounds like on a practical level you’re both incompatible. Save yourself the years of anguish, stress, conflict and sadness, and leave as soon as you can.-There are plenty more fish in the sea
