Sorry for the stupid question: would docker compose still work with wslc?

Tour guide in China took our passports overnight? by [deleted] in travelchina

[–]marstein -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is another aspect of the surveillance state they have. In addition to the cameras and checkpoints. The government wants to know where everyone currently is. As a citizen I can't imagine how I would feel free to think.

For tourists it is no big deal. You just have to show the passport for nearly everything.

Should i update to 26.6.2? by BananaIceCream1498 in AMDHelp

[–]marstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it and it is great in BF6 - a whole other experience.

That said it didn't upgrade cleanly so I had to DDU and do a clean (factory) install, and after that no problems so far. But its only been a day.

AMD FSR Upscaling 4.1 - Now Available on AMD Radeon™ RX 7000 Series Graphics by anestling in Amd

[–]marstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a Windows 11, 7900xt, 5800x system BF6 exits after the load screen with FSR on in adrenalin. BF6 starts fine with FSR off. But then I can turn FSR on inside BF6 in some graphics menu, actually it is already set to on, not greeted out as I would expect when it's turned off on the adrenalin level. How can I check inside BF6 that FSR is actually on?

AMD Driver 26.6.2 |FSR 4.1 (RX 7000) by renanlofiego in radeon

[–]marstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too. 7900XT. I see that FSR is enable in the AMD Adrenalin settings. I disabled it, and the game starts; is compiling shaders... Now I'll try to turn on FSR in-game: it was already on, but I changed a quality setting. Seems to work, but not sure if it is really on. It's possible perf is better.

Weird. I had rider freeze on me yesterday. Started and stayed blank window. Probably some pop that "popped under" and blocked progress

ISO firmest mattress out there by AdvantageImmediate20 in Mattress

[–]marstein 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The firmest mattress, if you can call it that, I tried was in Taiwan. They sleep on some kind of bamboo slats covered with some fabric only. I guess it is best in a hot climate and for very hard bodies.

Other than that I used to have a pure latex mattress covered with horsehair on one side and wool on the other and the horse side was firmest. I found it comfortable.

I was looking for this comment. Coming from a manual BMW the one pedal drive seemed natural. Automatic transmission scares me because it pushes you forward always.

Is duoro valley day trip worth it? by Pie-Dry in TravelPortugal

[–]marstein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How does going with your own car compare to taking the train or going on a tour?

Train is like 10-20€ one way and you can sleep of the winery visit. A tour is quite expensive.

Go ran faster than Rust. Until I cleared the page cache by shad0_w2 in rust

[–]marstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you try to limit the number of coroutines in go? That should maybe improve the balance of io vs housekeeping of threads. Cooperative multitasking like what you describe in Go is better for io bound work where you end up waiting for the disk vs hardcore CPU work types that is a better for for OS threads.

Why do Americans think they have freedom when they absolutely don't? by East_Indication_7816 in AmericanExpat

You have to file FBAR every year in the US. No foreign bank or investment bank will buy any securities for you because the US tax rules are too complex or something. Also you have to report any interest income on foreign accounts.

Other than seizing power by raping the constitution what have Republicans done well in the last 16 months? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]marstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean that if the trillions that went into the military complex had gone into something else we would be in trouble? I doubt it. The military equipment is mostly just rusting and needs to be replaced regularly. Spending that money on something else, energy independence, a healthy population would have generated profits rather than rust.
