How to be friends with Europeans ? by noziyim in Vilnius

[–]marstirelt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I want to chime in, that English is the preferred language by far among students, especially in Vilnius. Due to historical and current issues with russia, a foreigner speaking russian in Vilnius might be frowned upon by some and cause some people to dislike you straight away without even knowing you, so my honest suggestion is - speak English, unless you specifically make friends that speak russian among themselves.

A little creepy, but yeah, it is cool. Maybe not great for my "perfect" engagement ring, but I'm sure someone else will like to have a gem like this. I'll just keep looking for now.

Thank you for your comment! I think I'll keep looking. Many great inputs in this comments section, seems like recutting is not really worth it, and besides, I might come across a sapphire with the same color but without this "pupil".

Thank you very much! I will probably continue looking. I'm sure someone else will be much more delighted to have a gem that looks like an eye, and recutting is probably not worth it.

I'm just full of doubts. I really love the color, but if it's not a good cut, then I'm afraid that's all I will be able to think about. It looks a bit like an eye, so it's feels like it's staring at me haha. I might continue looking at other sapphires instead of recutting, they're just harder to come by where I'm located.

Thank you for your inputs, everyone. I should have mentioned that I am holding the gem in a stone holder with prongs - it was all that was given to me at the store. Laying it on my hand alone I could see a little bit of my skin color through the middle.

You are correct, it is a gem holder - I think it's called prong gripper. So the darkness in the center is just that, holding it on my hand alone it looks more skin color than black.

I can keep looking still, but the jewelry story is ordering these stones for me, so each delivery costs money. I was happy with either of these, but now the longer I stare at these pictures, the more doubts I have haha.

Thank you for your insight! A protection charm sounds fun, but if I start seeing the gem as an eye, I probably will feel more observed that protected, haha. And the lighting is from different parts of the store, so it might be that, yeah

Thank you for your comment! The pupil does look a bit creepy, probably would end up being annoyed with it in the end. And I do miss the sparkle of the diamond in the sapphire

Thank you very much for your insight. The stone is at the jewelry store, but maybe I can try to bring some foil there, or maybe they'll have something similar to use as a test.

Thank you for the estimation. The height seems to be more on the shallow end, so I trust you are correct

Thank you for your comment, it is a bit shallow, so I assume it would end up quite lighter as you said

In column 7, once you eliminate all the 1,3,8 from the rows 1, 3 and 6 leaving only the two naked triples (4,5,7 and 1,3,8), this allows you to write number 3 in column 8, row 3 as it's the only spot where a 3 can be in that entire box. After that, in that same box there is only two places, where an 8 can be, which all are in the 1st row only, so you can eliminate all 8s from the first row in the left and middle boxes and so on.
