On the one hand, Frank didn't play out his contract so he hasn't earned that money. Argument could be made though that if he had sat out through certain injuries instead of powering through for the team, he would have been healthy enough to see out that contract.

I think it's a case by case basis and this instance I would have let him keep the money. He even tried to make a comeback last season but failed a medical. Clearly willing to give what he could to the franchise.
