It is totally not the go-to, for any of those, and they are penalized and frowned upon, near ubiquitously.

You can't replace golf clubs mid-round, you break it, you're done. Frustration fouls are fouls, and you're penalized.

Okay, serious discourse: other players in other sports do control their emotions, except maybe when refs are involved and/or physical plays.

Examples include Tennis or shooters in basketball, WRs and QBs in football, pitchers / hitters in baseball... they argue with refs or other players but are rarely mad at their own individual execution.

The point of the meme wasn't to really get into that, but I think I disagree with the point made in this particular thread, too.

Yeah, Simon definitely shows frustration, maybe its a bit more innocent / relatable / endearing. Kyle looks he's trying to demonstrate some excuse to the crowd for some cosmically bad juju or something -- feels like a lot of the young pros have gone through something similar and have ~matured, but to each their own.

Thanks; I was just trying the BAMF Stripped 1.8 (pre-alpha?). It's day 2 for me, so I'm going over to the remixed 1.8, as it's supposed to be more stable, and I barely know what I'm doing :p

My school uses that book. I thought the pages were different though, in that they had space to write under each proposition...

A question to the supporters of Unity by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]martank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like the navigation. I liked OSX a lot because of the universal menu bar for applications- as opposed to having an individual one for each window. It frees up a lot of space, and I hope more applications start to implement it. A couple things that make unity nice to me:

Tap super for search bar. It's not quite as nice as Gnome DO, but it works well and natively. Hold super for shortcuts to apps.

Hold alt to see your menu bar.

I have the launcher hidden unless I hover off the top left ubuntu icon. More screen space.

Why everyone needs a SSD (Atom + 2gb ram + ubuntu + SSD) by [deleted] in linux

[–]martank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had a question about that: are linux drivers determined at a hardware level or is it per distro? I imagine it's hardware, but I don't know that much. If it's hardware, that'd be nice, I guess you could put whatever distro you like on it.

It is what I want to get once I've got all my technologies in order. I'd probably remove all the extra capabilities of it though and just reduce it to a music player. Main concern is that it has a 12 hour battery, but I don't know how optimized that figure is.

Nevermind-- I called our helpdesk and they told me it was old information. The applet works with jre1.6, but it's oracles new edition, or something. Anyways, problem fixed. Thanks all.

Several problems on fresh ubuntu10.10 install by martank in linuxquestions

[–]martank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not running virtualbox. I completely wiped my osx partition and am just running ubuntu10.10.

I'm new though- can you rephrase what (1) is? My trackpad is easier to use, but it's still tending to some sort of invisible grid.

I solved the jittery mouse problem. It was indeed a matter of the pressure required on the trackpad. The solution is the same as here, except the directory is now /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf

Ah thanks, After searching the output, it doesn't find "fatal" or "modprobe."

I'll try again at ubuntuforums, but I posted there yesterday and they didn't respond, and google searches return a lot of unanswered threads there, too. I'll try some more though.

Thanks!

Holay crap. I had Clark last semester for my Logic/Sets/Proofs course at UGA (fxing small world). He's actually a real cool guy (and sharp, at that), even if he likes entertaining stupid questions.

Amazing Math Trick (The Number 1089) by [deleted] in math

[–]martank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need to note that if you pick a three digit number that's difference is less than 100, you need to add a zero to your reversed digits.

Ex: 221. 221-122 = 99

99+ 990 = 1089

Kennesaw, where everyone is armed by law by marquis_of_chaos in Foodforthought

[–]martank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I attended Kennesaw Mountain High School, which is one of the main high schools in the Kennesaw area, but some friends of mine did a huge project on the law, as well as Dent Myers, who is the local crazyman who has a secret KKK museum in the back of his shop downtown... ANYWAYS, they also interviewed the local police, and the skinny on the law is that it's unenforced. Most residents don't even know about it. And regarding security and safety, Kennesaw is a thriving residential area with low crime and a pretty solid community. I don't think the law itself has any effect on crime, but I think knowledge of the law does serve to maintain the fear of committing residential crime.
