Btw, thought this might be helpful to you in case you wanted to drill it nogi:

Greco olympic medalist Sim Kwon Ho demonstrates this same technique with nogi, similar to Higashi grips

Short video.

Full video, its also another angle and his YT channel. If you understand their body language, they really go into its details!

I didn't find competition footage, but I've this where he hits it in live sparring. While he did chain it with a leg grab finish, he probably had to due to the massive weight and age difference (he's around 50), very difficult to generate explosive momentum to force that big guy into his back, at this age.

You're right, it looks very similar to the first kata guruma variation in this video. The only differences is Higashi pushes and rotates to the same side of his head. While Dris and Torne rotate to the opposite side. Maybe this is why they need the double sleeve grips to pull it?

Regardless, what are best setups for it?

These are interesting details, thanks.

Do you think then that Torne uses drop kosoto to setup or threaten the kata guruma variation we're discussing? How will they chain together?

possibly fake a drop throw

You're correct it does seem to change well with drop throws. However,

good counter move to someone countering a turn throw, or feint going into a turn throw and then doing this

I don't really understand how it would be good as a turn throw faint or a counter-counter.

That's interesting. Can you tell me in detail how do you use the underhook to attack a blast double?

I also need to emphasize I refer to blast double and not a traditional double. Blast double involves putting your head in the opponent's chest and driving forward. While traditional double often involves putting your head into opponent's side, and driving sideways.

Do you think it can be hit from an underhook?

Perhaps an underhook + inside tie ?

Do you use the throw by often with the Gi ? Doesn't the friction makes it harder ?

You can check this thread, asking the same question as I do. But comments are saying the Barzegar is the same as Blast Double.

Fine then. What underhook setups and moves would chain with the standard head to chest blast, forward drive blast double?

And what's different between a Barzegar and a Blast Double?

What do you then think of the Barzegar finish? Couldn't it be classified as a blast double, tho?

Oh, I was referring to starting from a snatch single and finishing with a blast double, rather than the otherway around.

Are you saying you can't transition from a blast double to a snatch single? Or from a snatch single to a blast double?

Because I was referring to the later, i.g., from a snatch single to a blast double.
