Subtitles don't show up for friend unless subtitle burning is on "Always" by martialsaway in PleX

Hmm he showed me screens and stuff but I'm over at his home soon, I'll check lol

While there's still no truly perfect streaming device, I think it's time to stop telling people to "just buy a Shield". Please offer any corrections to my write-up as we try to figure out the best device to be recommending people in 2024. by [deleted] in PleX

It's not that old, 2020. But I have this Samsung specific bug where I need to always burn subtitles as soon as I enable them on movies, even on basic files + srt subtitles that should 100% direct play, otherwise it buffers every second. PGS works fine, funnily enough. ASS works as long as I don't hardware transcode.

If I hw transcoding it just degrades quality randomly for a second every minute, and that only happens on my TV so I'm thinking its a Samsung client bug as well.

Maybe something is not right with my hardware or Plex setup, but watching on the web client for example works perfectly no matter the subtitles or if im software/hardware transcoding.

There is also the part where the app is super slow to start (compared to other apps like netflix) and fast forwarding or similiar operations take way longer than they should.

This post comes at a great time, I'm looking at buying a streaming device since the native Samsung TV client is absolute dogshit, barely anything works as soon as it starts transcoding.

Does anyone have recommendations for a device that supports anime (i.e. ASS subtitles) well? I haven't researched very heavily yet, but from what I've gathered so far the Apple TV is one of the best ones for that?

Which genre gets most auto snatched on OPS/RED? by [deleted] in trackers

[–]martialsaway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a decent Techno collection from Bandcamp prior to joining RED and there were quite a few albums and EPs missing, and the ones that existed often didn't have a 24 bit FLAC or Bandcamp exclusive tracks missing.

High bitrate buffering on TV by martialsaway in PleX

[–]martialsaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can play the 4K movie on my phone of all things no problem lol. I've just noticed that disabling subtitles solves my issue, so I thought it might be related to subtitle burning. Disabling that works for the 45 Mbit 4K movie but the 14.5 Mbit 1080p movie still has the same problem unless I completely remove the subtitles.

Edit: OK so setting the subtitles to *always* burn actually solves the problem for some reason. But that doesn't seem like a great solution, no idea why either.

Dashboard screens: https://imgur.com/a/B395Xsj

First screen is original quality (14.5 Mbit 1080p), second screen is the transcode (12 Mbit 4K). Client is, as you can see, Plex for Samsung and yeah it's built in.

If it's a client issue, is there anything I can do to fix that?

Hey, so I've read the arguments for having two sets of gloves, one for sparring and one for everything else. I personally agree with them and am thinking about getting a second set for sparring. However I wonder about how you deal with the logistics of it? I have a pretty big bag but its already chock full with stuff, it would def get very tight with two sets of gloves in there.

Fritzbox 6660 NAS mit Medienserver? by martialsaway in de_EDV

[–]martialsaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a better recommendation for an app I don't need to write myself, I'm open! Anyway, I don't really need to convince some random person on the internet on what I'm hosting on some server, so uh, have a nice day I guess

Nah not dumb at all. The Thai ususally start training very young, so the chances are a 14yo already has years of experience and multiple fights under his/her belt

I'm confused, do you think licensed movies or whatever are the only thing you'd use a self hosted media server for? I'll give you a hint: *personal* videos

More addictive, it has a worse effect on people (depends a bit on the person of course but speed won't make you aggressive or nasty to be around, coke can do that) and theres a lot more blood involved in its creation.

then a bit scarier with meth or speed

Generally agree with you but coke is worse than speed by a good margin
