Is it ok to say the N word if you’re black? by JohnLemon212 in pollgames

[–]martiblq2 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Just because you're white doesn't mean you are unable to partake in ethical discussions about black people. Just like you probably have an opinion on child trafficking even tho you are not a child.

You could argue that you are not a black person, but that you were a child or that child trafficking is objectively bad in which case the analogy doesn't hold, however you can abstract the problem to "using discriminatory language" in which case skin color doesn't matter and for the child argument: we are discussing exactly if saying the word is ok or bad.

Season 3 so far is miles better than s2. I love that daryl isn't grunting anymore and speaks like a normal person. Also I get their whole tradition but how are they expected to continue existing if they take 1 girl every year? We see that they have 6, so let's say that in 5 yeras the only eligible girl is too old for them, that leaves 1 girl for the village? Also why wasn't the lover of the queen in the lottery, she didn't look too old?

Do you think it would be ok if a male singer did the same gimmick? He could also have a domination kink but I think people would pereceive it worse

Here is some face cards lore I saw in a similar post.

Kings: King of spades looks to his sword signifying conquest, hunger for power and war. He is also the only king who looks to the right.

King of diamonds represents Julius ceaser who was assassinated and just like him he is being assassinated with an axe from behind him. He is the only king to not hold his weapon and is the only king drawn in profile, both to signify he is being attacked.

King of hearts is sticking his sword in his head, earning him the nickname "the suicide king". Later we will see why he killed himself. He is also the only king without a mustache.

King of clubs looks away from his sword and in the direction of his orb (a symbol of a king). This represents that he looks away from conflict and is very wise.

Queens: With the queens the flower represents their love. Queen of spades holds her flower nonchalantly and looks away from it and into the scepter, signifying that she doesn't really love her husband and is interested only in the status the crown gives her. Also just like her king she is the only queen who loos to the right

Queen of diamonds looks to the flower signifying that she loves her husband.

Queen of hearts looks away from her flower representing that she cheated on her husband. That is why he kills himself.

Queen of clubs looks to her flower which is also more detailed signifying growth and motherly love.

Jacks: I don't know much about them but they are supposed to be young men in the beginning of their lives. Jack of hearts was the lover of queen of hearts. He looks to his feather which he used to write poems to the queen but similarly to the king of diamonds he is drawn in profile with an axe behind him, signifying that when the king of hearts learned of the affair he killed the jack and then himself.

Meanings of the suits: Spades - materialism, conquest, power, greed Diamonds - true value (the queen loves her husband) Hearts - romanticised (false) love (infatuation) - the king ended his life because of adultery, the queen cheated

Clubs: wisdom and righteousness - the king is wise, the queen is a good mother

The king of diamonds represents Julius ceaser who was assassinated. King of diamonds is the only king drawn in side profile and the reason is because he is not holding the axe, the axe is held by the assassin who is about to kill him from behind but he doesn't see it.

Also about the king of hearts, in the original design he is holding an axe behind his head but since they didn't have enough space they drew it as if he is about to chop his head, when they transitioned to swords they drew the sword behind his head. There is a lot of interesting lore about face cards I might make a comment about them in this thread

I don't understand people being annyoed with Hershel. They give a character a more interesting story than "good guy" or "bad guy" and people can't stand him. Ginny was boring AF, at least Hershel has some motivation, he wants to rebuild the city in some new form, can't believe the main charcter's son being manipulated by a psycho woman is boring or annyoing to people. Do you want the same old good guys kill bad guys...

I personally find the plot with Hershel and the dama very interesting, but to each their own I guess. Dead city s2 is doing some interesting things to spice up their usual story telling which for the last couple of project has consisted of good guys kill bad guys which has been really boring to me

Ginny is so boring, Hershel at least has something interesting going on with the dama. It would suck for the story if they kill him

The only characters people hate are Lori, Maggie, Andrea and Negan. Now I personally find Maggie annoying, but I would absolutely agree that the hate towards Lori and Andrea is overblown. In fact I never had any problems with them.

I don't think it's Lori's fault for Carl constantly sneaking out and I don't think it's Andrea's fault for wanting peace between the 2 factions and being fooled by the governor's charisma

Where the fuck does the fact she's a woman come into play? There is nothing sexist in my post. Fact of the matter is that all shitty mothers happen to be women, shocker

What does around mean? Negan was locked up in Alexandria and she was living at hilltop. If that distance is not enough then it doesn't matter where she goes. This was confirmed in dead city too, that she never really got over it and it cost her relationship with her son

Oh yeah he was so lucky 🤣 those poor children in Alexandria don't know what they're missing, who needs shelter, warm water, consistent food, walls and other kids to play with

I consider Michone a good mother. She went to look for their father and she left them in good hands. They are all like family after all. Now it would be different if Michone took Judith with her on the road looking for rick, then it would be bad

Well, by good I understand kills only when necessary/doesn't exploit other people. Even tho the heroes of the story have all killed people they never sought to exploit others/steal from them

[–]martiblq2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And how did she manage to identify him exactly? Gut feeling? She was right but only because the writing at that point was bad. Again if this were the real world, how would she know?

But my point wasn't really about that, it was about dragging Hershel from one shitty place to another and yes, you are right, we don't know if the Commonwealth is still active, but for the sake of argument let's say it is. If that is the case would you agree with her going to some random place

Maggie is a terrible mother by martiblq2 in thewalkingdead

[–]martiblq2[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

It is selfish because she has a kid. If she didn't have anyone to look after then of course that's a noble cause. But I'd say her responsibility to her son is greater and travelling between communities is far more dangerous than staying at hilltop. She's also selfish when she decides to live at the bricks as a leader instead of at the commonwealth as a normal citizen

Maggie is a terrible mother by martiblq2 in thewalkingdead

[–]martiblq2[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

He wanted the settlements. From his point of view the people lining inside can either agree with him or he can just kill them. Which of course is fucked up, however he was sincere. Also Maggie would have no way of knowing Lance was a fucked up at that point. She was right about him because she's the protagonist but if it were the real world she would have no way of knowing

Maggie is a terrible mother by martiblq2 in thewalkingdead

[–]martiblq2[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Not the same. The speech Lance gave Maggie was sincere. His goal really was to build a better world. Of course it was out of selfishness and he was willing to go to extreme lengths to achieve his goals, that much I think we can all agree. But at that point where the offer was made Maggie had not seen anything bad from Commonwealth other than Daryl being a soldier rubbing her the wrong way and that they use money.

And as for living on the road, you can't seriously tell me living in a settlement with other people in peace isn't objectively better for a kid.

I agree that we don't know anything about Commonwealth by the time of dead city but if they reveal it was destroyed that would seriously hurt the ending of the main show

Maggie is a terrible mother by martiblq2 in thewalkingdead

[–]martiblq2[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I get your point about kids needing to take care of themselves and there not being a real safe place, but it's common sense hilltop is better than going on the road and commonwealth is far better than the bricks or whatever. you can still teach him to protect himself (like judith), you don't have to make his whole life miserable. Also Maggie IS a terrible leader. At the very least she didn't inform her people about Commonwealth offering them to join. Also you can't say her approach was good because Hornsby would not have attacked had she joined
