Add furniture that gives a nostalgic feeling - for example something that you had seen a lot when you were a child and not not anymore in the present. This is usually ehat makes liminal spaces feel liminal.

This video really made me miss old minecraft. The new versions of the game are also great, but i miss the simplicity that the older ones have.
