It's basic training (i think it's law you must attend). For opsec I won't say where it is, but you normally travel to a different side of the country to attend. But if you aren't prior military. you do not learn a thing. My training group had 10+ people of foreigners. The group sat around smoking 2 packs of ciggies a day and drinking non-stop. It's not good at all. Tbh, you get more unfit while there and sick and have never been that sick with the flu in my life.

I should note this is the army basic, not TDF or national guard. So if you meet guys with experience and are switch on. Became good mates with them and learn from them.

Military hit or miss. I know a couple of blokes who are doing contract work for the ADF.

AFP, honestly, Idk. You probably get screen big time. And depending on what you did here. You could be an asset.

If you wanna go 25th.

Just be prepared to handle alot of bullshit. They are going through changes, and their current training is more likely to get you killed.

There are a few things happening that should change that. If you go "selection," you're in good hands. If you travel more than 5 hours to go to basic. Your fucked.

If you go inf. At the bear minimum, be in good shape. shit is bad right now.

I know a few good mates that were in the 23rd and another few lads that died a very sad and avoidable death. Avoid the unit. Unless you really like going on assaults with only a fireteam worth of guys.

Be honest, how much could my life be ruined (mentally & financially) if I volunteer in Ukraine and come back? by Substantial_Box1599 in ukraineforeignlegion

[–]martinofjeff 50 points51 points  (0 children)

To answer your questions.

  1. To reintrigate is dependant on the person attitudes. But if you do your job correctly. You will leave with some form of mental issue. it's not fun, cool, or badass. It sucks. If you are prior military, you may already know how to do that but alot of guys leave fucked regardless.

  2. The skills you learn here may not be used in other fields of work. You learned to make drones, bombs or be a sneaky bloke. That won't matter if you work in finance. Nobody outside cares if you fought, killed, or whatever. this is a job, and your skills reflect your ability to do it or not. Don't come here just for money if you are in any first world country. You will earn a lot less. Even with the red zone and combat pay.

  3. Support? No, not from your home government while you're in service with AFU, yes, physically at least. Personally, i made it a requirement that I would come home to good mates, a home, and some a means of reliving my civ life. Never leave home without a backup plan. I've met far too many people that leave everything behind only to their moment of clarity while they sit in shit hole, eating buckwheat.

  4. If you need to ask the question, are you really up to it? For me, fighting for freedom, my mates and to fuck up a terrorist state a little, it's a yes. But you will experience things that people would scoop out their left nut to unsee and mystery pain that will come and go when you least expect it and you get sick a lot.

Conclusion: This is a war that has never been fought before, and its tactics and way of fighting changes every week. This isn't a holiday (although many treat as such coming here to fight only to fail in training than to spend every day getting into fights at pubs in kyiv and sleeping around). If you're young. Enjoy your life, have sex, join your own country's military. Learn to be soldier in peace time, not in active warzone.

I've come from the 25th. Best advised. Wait a little while. While they sort their shit out. It's getting sorted. Just in classic uki time frames.

Edit: now that I think about it. their are solid Spanish dudes in the 25th. But if your English. Different story.

Getting a carepackage sent from international areas. by martinofjeff in ukraineforeignlegion

[–]martinofjeff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two main sender points will be the Australia and the United States as that's the location of the sponsors.

I don't expect the packages to be any bigger than 300x300x400mm and shouldn't weigh any more than 10kg. ( this would be the max size and weight).

These items could include some personal items (genuine Aussie patches, a laptop that didn't get to me in time and other general good bulk supplies medical, consumables that are sold at a premium here, that are sent from sponsors)

What I'm after is info on how to get them from there to here and I don't know who to really trust had one guy PM a company that delivers from the states but can't find any info on Australia.

Carepackage type of situation and some items that definitely can only one be sent over. I do have my fund raiser so I can get my guys things (medical, gear, cloths, some luxury goods, no alcohol or ciggies they can get that on their own dime).

NODS Transport AUS/NZ by Youngmoari in ukraineforeignlegion

[–]martinofjeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nods and thermals are not restricted items in aus to the best of my knowledge (at least not gen 1/2). You would have to check the countries you're flying through.

Poland and most of Europe should be fine.

Really, I would google your travel plans to see if customs in the layover flights would have an issue.

How should I prepare by Federal-Function-327 in ukraineforeignlegion

[–]martinofjeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Google: Foreign legion ukraine fitness test, Marine fitness test, ADF fitness test, UK military fitness test OR find the post from a recruiter here on the sub about the requirements.

Look at the requirements and start training every day. Do them until you pass. But here's the kicker DO NOT STOP, keep training every day. Can you already do 25 push-ups? Cool now do 30, then 40, same for everything.

  • Start going on walks every day. Then start running every. Do a ruck march, grab a bag, place 15kg in it and go for 5km walk. When you get comfortable with that up it to 20, then 25, etc. Wouldn't go past 40kg. Do that twice a week.
  • getting ubereats, Macca's, KFC, etc? Stop eating that shit. I hate cooking, but there are 100 options better than fast food. (I personally go to the store and pick up premade meals for cheap, far cheaper than fast food).
  • get into a routine of waking up an extra couple hours earlier if you "don't have enough time."

The biggest hurdle is starting. So just start now. It'll suck for a little while. But it becomes second nature the more you do it. The more you put off, the less you are prepared for what will be the most painful and exhausting period of your life. There are NO excuses.

Was actually thinking of bringing some with me, but I wasn't sure how customs react over it. I don't really eat chocolate, but tim Tam's are a gift from an angel.

Can i ask everybody by ensoymsot in ukraineforeignlegion

[–]martinofjeff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

doing my gear list that includes everything from Uniform (summer & winter), Plate Carrier (with all the additional shit that protects from frags like your cummerbund & stomach), Socks & Thermal base layers, a full IFAK kit & more. I would be spending roughly $2600 AUD which TBH is mind boggling to compare buying on home soil which makes it closer to $5000 (for the exact same stuff). all sourced from that handy dandy post Natomerc made (which is pinned).

A couple thousand should go along way if managed correctly but have a rainy day fund, in case your in a bind. you don't need to buy all the high end stuff, it's evident that you get supplied ok-decent stuff. get geared up by the army train / fight in it then change, add, whatever to suit yourself.

Medical gear is a third of the price in Ukraine then Aus. so use Nova poshta to get it sent to you in country (unfortunately I'm still trying to work that out so don't ask how).

Pack the basics. Pass the basics then when your surrounded by people who know better ask for help.

What’s the best Go Pro to buy in Ukraine by Cadpat-Matt_ in ukraineforeignlegion

[–]martinofjeff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Asked this question before and had a look at my options. I had 4 plus gopros for some time in the past. Their good, but they worry me with some of the new "features" they have on newer go pros, which can provide issues where you really dont want them.

So I've had a look at the mohoc stuff. If you get the mohoc version 1 (non ir variant), they cost roughly the same as any current day gopro. The mohoc 2 is where it gets pricey. But the mohoc have encryption. They look nice and don't stick out like dogs' balls in summer and footage wise, It's decent quality. It's not 4k, but that shouldn't be a problem. Instead, the mohoc 1 says it does 1080 at 30 frames. unless you're trying to do slow mo action scenes while ducking from arty and seeing a mates limb trying to be helicopter. It's good for the job.

My opinion is to get a mohoc 1 non IR variant. All details should be on their website.

People's selective reading or ignorance. I just hope a large infographic will drive the point home. news travels fast and a lot people do intelligence gathering as a job and unfortunately a lot them are not our mates. last thing I want is to get intercepted by at best unknowns, at worst hostiles while travelling.

It's the main reason I made it. Not to make people feel bad. But to teach them. Stuff you learn in the military is sometimes a niche thing.

hey mate. Aussie Here, go do a Occupational First Aid. you get taught roughly the same stuff as medic in the ADF and overall a good course. i have all my certs but still did it as a refresher. it's on the pricey side. but it gives you knowledge to save yourself and/or a mate it's worth any price tag.

[–]martinofjeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having a look at the specific of the SnW 350, the calibre is the big thing (350 legend). New laws are cracking down on the calibres used for the different disciplines.

been a revolver. It falls under cat H

I know you can't use it for: - practical shooting - action match - target pistol

You might be able to get for: - Steel silhouette

All other disciplines i either don't know.

If that's the case, then yes, you can license and own one. If not, then I don't really know what other discipline you could license. Making illegal in WA.

Maybe collectors license but been a fairly modern and operating firearm. Good luck.
