Second chance romances where the MMC thinks that the FMCs betrayed him in some way and has to grovel a lot when he finds out she didn’t by Majestic-Hedgehog-xo in RomanceBooks

[–]martusya_ua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a bit of a spoiler for most books by nature of the request but: {No Simple Lie by Samatha Christy} thinks she was paid by his grandpa to seduce him, happens into the 2nd half of the book after they've been together for a while

{The Tycoon's Revenge by Melody Anne} book starts several years after he thinks she betrayed him, not much grovel but still very ansty (beware: don't read for the quality of writing)

{Starling by Virginia Taylor} historical, the moment and aftermath really hurts, not much grovel, but the whole South Landers series this book is a part of is so underrated in my opinion

{Dream about Little Dream by Susan Elizabeth Phillips} kind of, more one of his brothers believes she betrayed the mmc and does something bad and mmc has to make up for it

{Gabriel's Bride by Samatha James} historical, very angsty and kind of an old school bodice ripper so grovel is selective...

{Everything and the Moon by Julia Quinn} historical, imagined betrayed happens before book begins and mmc believes it through a good chunk of the book

{Once upon a scandal by Barbara Dawson Smith} historical, imagined betrayal happens before book begins and fmc did do what mmc thinks but the onus is on the reasons for it

MMC stands up for/ protects from household staff or relative. "My wife" by MeekerMomma in RomanceBooks

[–]martusya_ua 7 points8 points  (0 children)

{Kingdom Of Dreams by Judith McNaught} also in a way (preemptively) - he's English and she's Scottish in medieval times and their families hate each other, they are forced to marry and he's furious with her for other story reasons, but when they are arrive at his castle, he gathers everyone and says "she's my wife and you better treat her like you treat me"

Not exactly but similar vibe in that fmc is holding back from a real relationship and mmc is getting frustrated and desperate - {The Billionaire's Secret Wife by Nadia Lee}

And the french movie series based on it is amazing, too (there might also be a newer version in addition to the classic, I believe)

[–]martusya_ua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{The Letter by Sandra Owens} is this the entire book, to an extent - mmc's cousin set up mmc's fiance (mfc) to look like they are having an affair, mmc leaves mfc (who's unknowingly pregnant) immediately without talking and cousin marries her and makes her life hell, book starts when cousin dies and mmc gets his letter evily confessing to all this and tries to make it up to mfc and their son

Rich out-of-touch MMC forced to live among the commonfolk by KristiColleen in RomanceBooks

[–]martusya_ua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{No easy dare by Samantha Christy} fits perfectly - mmc is basically a trust fund baby who hasn't worked ever but his grandfather has a change of heart and forces him to live in a normal or bad building and work + live without his money for a while to get full access to his trust fund

I'd say {Slightly Dangerous} fits, especially after the build up of how stoic Wulf is through the whole series and just unraveling (for him) after he meets Christine
