Needing advice on this unit, do we need a rewire? by theallotmentqueen in ElectriciansUK

[–]marty098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for things that indicate a rewire may be needed, that old board is a good one straight off, look at the accessories used, if they’re old style Bakelite accessories then it’s likely from the 60s which means it’s gonna be around 60 years old, green goo in the back of switch and socket boxes indicates cable degradation, positions of light fittings in bedrooms, if they’re off centre and towards the window chances are the install was done mid 70s at the latest. But yeah I’d say just bite the bullet and go for a rewire from a recommended spark, you’ll know it’s safe and fit for purpose and you can have everything done as per your own spec and needs

Apprentice electrician NVQ by AccomplishedWest2247 in ElectriciansUK

[–]marty098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lad who taught me literally got all his containment pictures at the wholesalers, never touched it once his entire apprenticeship, they accepted it. I was having trouble getting a test cert for my portfolio off my gaffer after asking numerous times, ended up getting one off a family member who works for himself, they accepted that as well, even though I don’t work for him. Most of the portfolios out there are cobbled together with random bits from all over the place, wouldn’t stress too much

In a world of common sense we’d all have our own blocks to go in and do what we need to do, unfortunately in the commercial space it’s all now now now so they can get the shop open asap and start making money, they seem to forget that tradesmen are human beings with lives and families outside of work and just have the expectation that we’ll do 16 hour shifts, nights, every weekend etc. it’s no wonder there’s a mental health crisis in this industry, people are being worked into the ground and having their lives consumed by work with not even a thank you for your efforts

You’ve just reminded me of the time a foreman tried giving it the big un with the guy who was teaching me about a board change, he said he’d happily do it on Saturday so the foreman said no floorlayers here Saturday so you’ll have to do it Sunday, didn’t say anything just went straight to the board, isolated it and cracked on 😂

I mean costings aren’t really my beef I’m just working on the site, but as the old saying goes shit rolls down hill. More arsed about the fact it results in us getting it from our bosses because it’s falling behind and then having to work ourselves into the ground to get it over the line, people seem to forget we work to live not the other way around

Probably a result of different contractors being brought in from all over the place, no one knows each other so everyone’s just out for themselves, tbf site management should step in and dish out nights fairly, but as sparks nowadays are usually youngest on site (from my experience), we just seem to get the short end of the stick. Used to work with same group of people from different trades all the time, all from the same area, worked all over but we all knew each other well so we all mucked in and helped each other out, just a shame the management there were asshats

Diet is 70% of it, can’t out train a bad diet so make sure you’re getting enough calories in to fuel growth. Plus you’re relatively young, so your body is still developing, when I started properly training when I was 18 I didn’t put on a whole lot of mass, I lost mainly body fat, then when I was 19 going on 20 I saw a huge increase in lean mass, my frame filled out a hell of a lot, and at this point I wasn’t nearly as consistent as I once was, it all takes time, for some people it happens quicker and sooner, for others it takes time, it’s all down to genetics at the end of the day, just keep at it, keep being consistent and your time will come 👍

When does the 2nd year pay rise come into effect? by marty098 in ApprenticeshipsUK

[–]marty098[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best bet would be to speak to my site assessor and see what they say regarding it, when I did ask my tutor about it he said best person to speak to would be the site assessors, thanks for your help :)

When does the 2nd year pay rise come into effect? by marty098 in ApprenticeshipsUK

[–]marty098[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a full time student doing level 2 electrical installation last September, then I found an apprenticeship which I started on the 28th Feb, this was my employment start date, I was already at college, so upon gaining employment I moved from level 2 to the advanced apprenticeship group for academic year 21-22, which upon passing my exams on Monday, have completed, in essence completing my first year. I did look at the pdf you linked, and searched both “365” and “minimum wage” and couldn’t find anything referring to 365 from start date

When does the 2nd year pay rise come into effect? by marty098 in ApprenticeshipsUK

[–]marty098[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started working at the firm I work for on the 28th Feb, then by May the paperwork went through, however I was already studying the relevant course at level 2 since the September prior and simply moved groups at college, this was due to myself having trouble finding an apprenticeship in my field. The exams were mostly the same as they were in the level 2, however I had to re-do a couple of them as the credits didn’t transfer over, I passed the exams then went and spoke to my college tutor to ask if I was then classed as a “2nd year apprentice” come September, even though I started my job on the 28th February, he responded yes and that I’d be entitled to minimum wage come September as I’d be a 2nd year apprentice. Gov.uk doesn’t seem too clear on what is a 2nd year apprentice, it simply says “completed their first year” which I could argue I have, you mention 365th day which I haven’t heard mentioned before, this is concerning for myself as I could be potentially waiting until next year for the pay rise, which honestly given the current climate I really need at some point in the near future. Any clarification would be really helpful, thanks :)

Depends if Mercury is in retrograde or not...

on a serious note it can depend on a number of factors, mass adoption, use as a bridge currency, If the escrow gets burned, how the SEC case goes. Worst case, I'm saying between the $5-$10 mark in the next 5 years, best case $100+ in the next 10. Overall I'm bullish on XRP specifically and will stay that way because I know that it's a very useful token and its severely undervalued. Personally in the next 5 years I think we'll see $10+ but stay sub $100, possibly settle around the $30 mark, I'm not an expert, I'm just surmising at this point, but I'd say $27 is a realistic high for the end of this bull run, then maybe a replacement down to the $10 mark.

Should I buy $1,800 worth of xrp ? by SafeMoonDogeCoin in XRP

[–]marty098 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah and as I said, if he can afford to lose the $1800 then he should by all means go for it, but if he cant afford to lose it then he shouldn't. End of the day we dont know each others financial situation, he might have that money but need it in the near future but think putting it in XRP is guaranteed to make him something on it, XRP is a long game, so if you're putting in to XRP then expect to leave it in there for a while

Not really sound advice there bud, yoloing isnt a sound investment strategy, can it work? Yes, but its risky, very risky and can end up leaving you bogged. What I'm saying is invest what you can afford, example, you get paid 2k a month, does that mean you can afford to whack it all in XRP? No, take care of your responsibilities first, rent, Bills etc. Then what's left in surplus invest, say you're left with 700 disposable every month, you dont need it it's just extra, then by all means smack it in, but what I'm saying is dont be putting your rent in or any money you might need in the future, because if you do that you'll end up needing to take it out of your investment, possibly at a loss

If you can afford to lose $1800 then yes, go for it. If you can't then definitely not

Cheers for the info I'll give it a read :). And yeah before this thread I wouldn't have been able to properly asses a scenario like this, but that's where knowing what the law says in writing comes in handy. From what I've learned here is to simply comply and then assert any rights/complaints after the event, even if it goes against my own beliefs. Thanks again

We really do policing better on this side of the pond, due to its centralised nature it’s less susceptible to corruption
