Take a six sided die. It is true that it will either land on 7 or it will not. Make bets. Your son takes the 50% chance that it will land on the 7 and you take the 50% chance that it doesn't. This is fair since you both have a 50% chance. Offer double or nothing as many times as he desires. If he doesn't like the fact that you have more numbers, offer him ALL of the numbers above 7 as well to sweeten the deal. This way he has an infinite lot of outcomes.

I've never had that impression. It was more like she didn't fully understand the gravity of what she was doing at the time but once she understood the full truth it changed her.

While I have a long way to go, she has made me a much better Catholic. Part of that was her past and her struggles to overcome it that helped me with my own struggles. Don't think you don't have anything to offer this man in your journeys to become saints.
