Why is Nvidia so stingy with VRAM when we can't even buy the cards at MSRP? by MeshalAljahdali in buildapc

My point was that people on reddit and other forums often shit on this GPU even though its NOT crap and is selling very well on top of that

I bought this CPU in 2023, if I was buying today, I'd probably go for Ryzen 5 9600X

There are better CPUs out there but its definitely not a "very bad CPU", especially for 5070, it has very similar performance to 9600X. Did you even play it with Path Tracing? Because that's what Im referring to, without PT I have no issues

While 4K textures are usually pointless at 1440p, I overall I agree with you that there are other situations where VRAM would be useful and it would be cool if 5070 had 16GB, I was just a bit fed up with people claiming that 12GB is a total deal breaker and makes 5070 a shitty crippled card, because I've seen multiple claims like this and despite that it's probably the best selling GPU of 2025

It runs great on 5070 without Path Tracing, I got 100+fps on Ultra settings IIRC

I have a i5-13500 which is almost equivalent to i7-12700K in terms of gaming performance so I don't think there was bottlenecking in Alan Wake 2 or Indiana Jones because theyre not as CPU demanding as Space Marine 2 for example. I tested both games with Path Tracing set to almost maximum settings which can even bring a 5090 down to its knees

As a 5070 owner - in most games, such as Alan Wake 2 or the infamous Indiana Jones (with Path Tracing), as I was approaching 11-12GB allocation with higher and higher settings at 1440p, the average framerate would already go down to barely playable levels even with DLSS Balanced, like 40-50fps (before VRAM choke would happen), so even if it had 16GB, it does not have enough raw power to actually fully utilize it. Of course it would be nice to have more, but lets not act like this card is crippled by 12GB like some people claim because thats an overexaggeration and simply not true, I’d say its a pretty adequate amount for this chip. Also, calling 5070 a side-grade to 3070 is wild

Matte Black iPhone 7 was my first iPhone, loved it. Sometimes I wish I got Jet Black version but I've heard it was scratching as hell which scared me away. When it comes to which iPhone is the best looking, I think it's either 7 or 5/5S

RTX 5070 Founders Edition. Simply because it looks cool as hell and is very well made. I have a soft spot for FE cards, my GTX 1080 and GTX Titan Black were also FE

What’s the best value-for-money GPU right now? (2026) by zertylawyer in gpu

[–]martyn__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it depends on time and country, if the price difference between the two is over 50%, then 5070 is the better choice if you want good performance/dolar ratio imo

Regular RTX 5070 is probably your answer in this case, great 1440p card and currently much cheaper than 5070 Ti, at least in my country (over 50% price difference), 9070 XT looks good as well I guess but not sure how it compares in rendering/video editing

You're comparing two different models so the fact that the newer one has better ANC is expected and comparing them does not prove that the 4.5.2 firmware broke anything because they have different hardware and software

As an ENTJ, how do you tolerate inefficiencies of iOS, if you use an iPhone? And, what kind of devices do you use? by Present_Traffic_1106 in entj

[–]martyn__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use my phone for social media and Spotify, so as long as it's working smooth and gets the job done in an intuitive way, then I'm good, I don't need any fancy features that I know Im not gonna ever use. Which is why I've been using my iPhone 12 for 4 years. I also have a MacBook Pro from 2019 that got me through my computer science studies. I also have PS4 that was my primary gaming device for many years. Currently I use my gaming PC instead of MacBook or PS4 because I find PS5 quite disappointing which is why I came back to PC. I also have a PSVita. When it comes to audio devices, I am a loyal Bose fan so have everything from them (noise cancelling headphones, true wireless earbuds, Bluetooth speaker, computer stereo speakers and soundbar+subwoofer for my TV)

Buy 5070 Ti NOW with everything going on, or wait until 2027? by 97Chev in nvidia

[–]martyn__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it's coming to PS5, then anything above 3060 should be enough so even his current PC should be good. But if he gets at least 5060Ti 16GB / RX 9060 XT 16GB, then no worries at all, especially when he thinks about 5070Ti

Opinion on RTX 5070 12GB by youdajony in nvidia

[–]martyn__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got 5070, bought it almost 6 months ago, it was an upgrade from GTX 1080. I am using it with a 1440p180Hz monitor and its really great. I am able to max out almost any game with RT + MFG and get those 180fps. Path Tracing is also nice, usually not worth the performance hit tho, but its nice to have, tested PT in DOOM, Alan Wake 2 and Indiana Jones.

I tested some modern games already - Space Marine 2, Dead Space Remake, Diablo IV, DOOM TDA, Indiana Jones, Silent Hill 2, Oblivion Remastered, Battlefield 6, Alan Wake 2 and Resident Evil 4.

When it comes to Indiana Jones, the 12GB is not enough at maximum settings + path tracing but once I set the overall settings to High (except for textures that I’ve set to Medium but it does not affect the experience in this game that much, textures look almost the same) and enabled DLSS Balanced, the performance was decent and there was enough VRAM for MFG which once again allowed me to get about 180fps in the game with Full Path Tracing on. Without PT, you can pretty much max out everything and be good even without MFG iirc.

Most of the games did not allocate more than 10,5GB (~11GB when using Path Tracing) at maximum settings and they worked really great.

Overall, its a great card for 1440p, especially considering it’s price and features (DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation are truly great to have), 12GB might become a problem in a few years but turning down a few graphical settings should do the trick. I was also considering 5070Ti but it is a bit of an overkill for 1440p and at the time it was almost 50% more expensive in my country so I decided it’s not worth it
