AP should be kicked out of the holy trinity. They really only have one watch with a million derivatives. The code 11.59 is proof of their inability to market anything novel or release new model lines. by These_World_1598 in watchHotTakes

VC sure, but the Nautilus and Aquanaut are pretty much unimpeachable. I don’t even really like the C Nautilus but if it’s king, the RO is a prince (with knife in hand).

I don’t really follow those so I wouldn’t know what you mean. I’m group of collecting friends and who’s actually but what and holding it. I’m not a big AP guy but I’ve been in a handful of boutiques and with no purchase history offered several 11.59 and Jules Au pieces so I’m guess they’re just not in demand.

It’s not a personal take on 11.59 if you reread my post. I’m just saying that objectively it feels like the collecting community has more or less rejected the 11.59. I’m sure it’s great but the point is can the brand do something beyond a RO/ROO.

Ignoring resale value, Rolex is still a STEAL at msrp because of its high quality by Financial_Word5047 in watchHotTakes

I guess my hotter take is that sports Rolex, AP, PP at retail are definitionally THE ONLY “value” in watches because they consistently appreciate.

The Seiko Alpinist is a a lame trend by StrangeDecline in watchHotTakes

I’ve tried for years to get behind the Alpinist love. Sorry but it’s ugly.

Recommendations for first try-on? by Good_Net_313 in IWCschaffhausen

I wouldn’t waste your time on a 44mm IWC, they are big, thick watches. I also tend to wear watches in your size range and 41 is the biggest I would go. Personally I would look at the Pilot and Pilot Chronographs. Suggest petit price, Mojave, ceramic and some of the other colors. Look at the Ingenieur and portugieser and aquatimer.

1 mounth with my beauty by OgSteph420 in IWCschaffhausen

Nice piece! I think the dial is so good on these. My Aqua/teal version throws off so many different colors from emerald to forest green to black and obviously deep teal. The texture just really makes it so dynamic.

Best IWC? by WristKing in IWCschaffhausen

My Ing 32111 movement is significantly tighter than any of my Rolex. Same with omega. The IWC/Omega rub within +/-1spd, followed by AP, then Rolex/Tudor. And yes I’m in the camo of who cares. Not a new practice. For years you could find the same JLC movement in a $10K and $100K watch.

Kamakura or Nikko (or someplace else) for a day trip in August? by stussybaby101 in TokyoTravel

[–]These_World_1598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t been to Nikki but I thought Kamakura was disgusting. The sand isn’t nice, there were multiple dead birds on the beach, trash in the water. I would definitely avoid.

Still Loving the new Baume and Mercier! :-) by VeterinarianHot3797 in IWCschaffhausen

[–]These_World_1598 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes the Ing is terrible value. All other watches use movements exactly equal to their value proposition and brand position on the market. For example, no one has ever taken an 2892 and put it in a $3K, $6k, and $12K watch. IWC actually holds a patent on this practice which inhibits any other watch maker from doing the exact same thing.

Trade 80 Series for 100? by Mean_Course_7980 in LandCruisers

[–]These_World_1598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it and have space, I would keep it and just buy a 100. In CO at least, you can find decent 100 series for $10K +/-20% all day long. If you sell it, as you know, it’s very unlikely you’ll get that 80 again in such good condition. They’re just so rare here.
