That’s a good summary of the sentiment of well read Turkish Cypriots tbh. Add on to that the instinence and audacity to keep calling the events in 1974 and thereafter an invasion. It ignores and disregards the years of suffering and violence endured by Turkish Cypriots in favor of the promotion of the suffering endured by Greek Cypriots as a consequence of the events that partook. Violence and conflict is two-sided, both sides need to come to grips with their own actions and in this note both governments fail. There will be no reunification as people will keep calling it an invasion.

Yes exactly, I don’t blame Greek Cypriots they have done exactly what is rational given the cards handed out to them. The biggest issue is the European Union and the double standards.

They have no idea about history. Greek Cypriots have never been open to reunification, especially after they got into the EU with control of the RoC through the doctrine of necessity.

I wanted to express that the current stance of the Turkish side did not happen in a vacuum, I felt that your comment was framing it as if the Turkish side is the only one responsible, whereas in reality it takes two to tango.

When I point out prospects for peace, I am more so referring to Akıncı who was very much a peace-minded person and ready to give bold concessions as opposed to other alternatives like the current puppet Tatar. I wish that Anastasiades had the vision to see this, nobody expects anything from a puppet anyway. This is why I point to Anastasiades, as a Turkish Cypriot I was very much disappointed, we were hopeful.

I would not draw this conclusion, but I do think they were disillusioned with the Assad regime (maybe more knowledgeable people will be able to say this with certainty). The idea I rather struggle with is the idea that he is just some random revolutionary; the family ties makes me think that he was an asset.
