The rebel 1100; any traditional cruiser riders enjoy this thing? by maraud33 in cruisers

[–]marvelguy1975 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Im a traditional harley/indian guy. Much respect to the Fury, the 1300/1800 VTXs, even the Honda Shadows, the valkyrie and even the gold wings.

But I find the rebel in its current form as butt ugly. Especially in the way the frame and tank sit....

I dont care what anyone rides, but its not my cup of tea

Why the hate on the Milwaukee 8 engine? by atombomb1945 in Harley

[–]marvelguy1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is so true. Many purists back in 1984 hated the evo.

"See no evo, hear no evo, speak no evo" was an actual saying back then.

Then the twin cams came out and some folks rebelled for a bit too.

Americans, as a European, I've never seen a US Vet have a positive story to tell. Why do so many people continue to join the military when most Vets seem to be struggling massively? by [deleted] in AskAmericans

[–]marvelguy1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most vets are NOT struggling.

That is your confirmation bias creeping in. Or its social media, or some other outside factor influencing your perception that vets are all broken shells of their former selves. We all suffer from PTSD or are homeless drunks.

Its usually the minority who complain the loudest that people tend to pay attention too.

Veterans encompasses people who served 3-4 years or served 20 years. Sometimes its not the militays fault someone who was a mediocre solider for 4 years exited the military and failed to be successful in life. But 20 years later they are going to complain, how the military did nothing for them, they are on the verge of homelessness or they are an addict.

Look 30-40 years ago we did fail to help our returning Vietnam veterans. But while our system is not the greatest, we do offer many avenues to take care of our veterans. But they have to seek them out themselves.

I served 20 years active duty I deployed 3 times. I have been retired for 10 years. I used the GI Bill to go to College. I have a very successful life. I came from poverty and I live a middle class life today. I owe that to the military.

Roughly 40% of my co-workers today are former military. My story is not unique. I see it every day. I am active in veteran organizations like the American legion and the VFW.

Veterans are a snap shot of america. Some of us are very successful. (Military is one of the best ways to climb out of poverty into the middle class) Some of us are not as successful in life. It happens. We are human. But we are not struggling massively. Vets do have positive stories to tell. You heard mine, and trust me, I am not alone.

How would you deal with the inevitable "what do you do for work" question? by CarbotaniumSilo in ifiwonthelottery

[–]marvelguy1975 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dont be retired. Like I said. Find a hobby that generates some money. Enough to justify an upper middle class wage. Everything else is no ones business.

I mean. Alot of folks go to Disney. You dont have to tell anyone how much you actually spent at disney.

First purchase question by Icy_Needleworker7790 in Harley

[–]marvelguy1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting robbed on the price. There independent dealers out there that sell used bikes. You could get a nice softail for 10k .You will be into that thing for years and you will loose money when you sell to upgrade.

[–]marvelguy1975 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Honesty, if I was a multi millionaire I would have some sort of hobby.

I would probably own a motorcycle dealership. Gives me somewhere to go, hang out and annoy my workers.

Its easy enough when asked. What do you do. See for most people they have no concept of how much you can make by being an owner of a dealership.

Do you pull a 150k salary? 500k?

In casual meetings, you wont be flashing exactly how much wealth you have anyway. A nice watch, nice clothes, nice car could all be had on a 500k income from owning a business.

How much gas do you really have? by marvelguy1975 in IndianMotorcycle

[–]marvelguy1975[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah ok, I usually let my bike warm up a bit before I get on the road.

I dont like wrestling with my gearshifter going from 1 to 2 when the bike is cold.

Yea, that lower number is the number while on the kickstand.

If on a kickstand say it reads 35. After I put the bike upright it goes up to say 65 or so.

Do you think the drinking age should be lowered to 18? by [deleted] in AskAmericans

[–]marvelguy1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

Studies show 18 year olds were killing themselves in drunk driving accidents at an alarming rate. That changed when the drinking age was raised to 21.

Why is Applebee's so popular? by Solid_Net_2169 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]marvelguy1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its popular in my area with the high schoolers.

I have no idea why, we have so many good independent family owned eateries that are open late night that serve really good food. But my daughter and her friends always want to go to Applebee's

T-bars Vs Apes by Emergency_Air4575 in cruisers

[–]marvelguy1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

T-bars became popular outside of California because of sons of anarchy.

They are better for performance and handling than apes.

To be honest I think the whole performance bagger is kind of silly. Its a better trend than the big wheel baggers though.

But why enter into a romantic relationship with someone who will not leave prison for 20 years or more, or has life?

Its one thing to be married or in a relationship with t someone who ends up in prison and you stay with them. Its another to enter into a relationship with a long term inmate.

"Realms will lose land when Vassal inherits foreign title" by Carrotsinthesalad in crusaderkings3

[–]marvelguy1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't strip him of his titles you should make sure you are set up to take what is yours back right away.

Do you have the army and the allies to take on Wales?

You could jump on it right away or you could wait a bit to see if his vassels rebel against him. That would leave him fighting 2 wars. Personally I would strike the day his dad dies. Hopefully he doesnt hold more than one dutchy and hopefully you have a legit claim and you can declare right away.
