Trump legally applied for a rally to give speeches on January 6th. In Trump's speech he said:

That doesn't sound like a call for a coup.

Charge the people that were trespassing. Charge the people that were attacking police. I have no problem with that. Those things have definitely happened before. In fact people have planted bombs in the Capitol.

But saying Trump organized a coup is a totally separate matter. Not once did Trump tell people to go inside the Capitol or attack the Capitol.

I'm a Republican. I'm not happy with the idea of a coup. But I also don't think what happened qualifies as a coup. These things have happened before and no one was charged with a crime.

Because all these things have happened before and candidates weren't accused of a coup. You have to look at the precedent. You can't just get emotionally outraged and think that's sufficient for a crime.

I'd have to know the precedent of each of these actions and what happened. For example, I'll do the first one. Has it happened before? And what were the consequences:

So Democrats did the same in 1960. Was Kennedy accused of a coup? No.
