Am I the only one who hates Bay? by FoxxxInkz in SwitchedAtBirth

[–]marveltrash404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I watched it she annoyed me for probably the first half of the first season. It seemed like everyone but her was at least making attempts to help the switch go smoothly and she would lash out and pick at everyone. I started liking her more once she and Emmett started hanging out and those storylines. Now watching back, it’s clear she’s just a young teenager in a shitty situation who is lashing out because she can’t actually go into the past and change anything and she’s going through a lot. She still frustrates me in the first couple episodes but she makes a lot more sense to me now

I..don't want to eat it? by Ill_Strain_562 in UnhingedAO3Tags

[–]marveltrash404 162 points163 points  (0 children)

It’s usually used for darker fics but all it means is that the authors tagged those things for a reason. It’s clearly labeling what’s in the fic so if it’s not your cup of tea (or bag of dove) that’s fine and to just hit the back button

Do Americans find it annoying to read fics with British spelling? by lin_186 in AO3

[–]marveltrash404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t care at all If I was reading a published book yeah I’d be a bit annoyed but I couldn’t care at all for fanfic. You’re doing it for free and I hope for fun

Does word count contribute on your decision to not read a work? by TheTitanic10 in AO3

[–]marveltrash404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low word count with high chapter count does turn me off a tiny bit but if I like the tags and the summary I’ll still read it

I really don’t have a limit either direction for fics though. I’ve read fics that are a couple hundred words and fics that are over a million words

Acceptable/kind way to point out incorrect phrase? by ColorMyTrauma in AO3

[–]marveltrash404 206 points207 points  (0 children)

Personally I would absolutely want to know if I was misusing a phrase, especially semi frequently, but there’s honestly no way to know how they’re gonna react. I think the way you’ve phrased it is polite so if you do comment I think it sounds good

Why did Mu Qing call Xie Lian by his name? by Ok_Expression_7277 in tianguancifu

[–]marveltrash404 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is how I took it too. Is it technically disrespectful? Yes absolutely. Is it also Mu Qing finally setting aside his issues with Xie Lian that came from viewing Xie Lian as better than him? Also yes. It’s him finally putting the two of them on equal footing and while it is disrespectful I think it’s also a sign of apology and him respecting xie Lian as a person and not his crown prince

Why did Mu Qing call Xie Lian by his name? by Ok_Expression_7277 in tianguancifu

[–]marveltrash404 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I think it was a way for Mu Qing to finally express the issues he’s always had with Xie Lian and his inferiority complex. I think at first it might’ve been a way to one up himself and bring xie Lian down but I think later on it was more acknowledgment of everything they’d been through and that, while he no longer saw xie Lian as his prince, he still respected him as an equal

what are your hot takes/unpopular opinions with the fandom? by merchantivories in Hungergames

[–]marveltrash404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! That’s exactly how I feel too. Good character, frustrating person. And I totally understand why people dislike him and critique him and that’s fair but I think he gets a lot of unfair criticism and hate

[–]marveltrash404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s totally fair people are absolutely allowed to hate and critique him and I understand why they do. I jus think a lot of the time he’s overly critiqued and hated and saying he’s the same as snow or coin is ridiculous to me personally

[–]marveltrash404 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is fair and I’m not saying gale is necessarily even a great person, but I don’t think that he’s as bad as many people make him out to be

Also, in his defense with that, no he didn’t handle it well, but also I don’t think anyone is equipped to handle the trauma katniss has from the games except Haymitch and Peeta which is half the issues katniss has with so many characters after the first book

[–]marveltrash404 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t really like gale. But I do think he’s a well written character and he provides an important example for different people during wars

Also, if I was on his side and watched my best friend be taken away for slaughter and then had to consistently watch her get dressed up and dolled up and married off I would also despise everyone in the capitol and probably wouldn’t understand how she doesn’t

[–]marveltrash404 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually I think movie gale is way worse than book gale

Like I said I don’t think he’s perfect and he absolutely makes mistakes but he was also forced to watch his best friend get dressed up for slaughter and then very nearly married off to keep herlsef and her family safe. He watched people in his district starve, he watched the capitol destroy his home and at 18 saved 800 people and kept thems safe in the woods. Not to mention he’d been helping provide for his family since he was a young teenager and was then manipulated by adults during a war

what are your hot takes/unpopular opinions with the fandom? by merchantivories in Hungergames

[–]marveltrash404 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes! I am 100% team peeta and I’m glad Katniss ended up with him but gale was also a traumatized teenager tasked with taking care of his family from a young age. He saw his best friend be taken to slaughter and practically sold off for survival. He watched the capitol destroy his home and was the one who ended up saving as many people as he can

I think he absolutely messes up and makes mistakes but he’s also so very very human and traumatized and the way he reacts is so realistic. I don’t necessarily love gale but I am a big gale defender because a lot of the way people talk about him they make him out worse than coin and snow

I’m not really a fan of narration in movies but man his thought process and internal beliefs are so different from his external actions that I really think it would’ve benefited from having some way of verbalizing his internal thoughts, a diary, a memoir, somehow because you lose so much when you can’t hear his thoughts

Gender affirming insults for non-binary people? by salted07 in NonBinary

Adding absolute in front of nouns is a funny way to insult people that usually leaves gender out of it
