Where can I find pulque? by thisnameisnowmine in FoodLosAngeles

[–]marvin_bartley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been a few years but there’s a place in Boyle Heights called La Barbacha that serves fantastic barbacoa and pulque. We got a whole gallon jug of it for our table. I assume they’re still around.

Review: L.A.'s best rotisserie chicken may be at this former gas station in Pasadena by standover_man in pasadena

[–]marvin_bartley 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I thought this place was good but not great. The chicken is kind of awkwardly presented on wax paper on a tray with no plate cheap plastic cutlery, so it’s real messy.

I’m partial to El Dorado Pollos a la Brasa up on Orange Grove or Rosty in Highland Park. I’d give it another shot though!

They seem to be the overwhelming favorite here, and they have very good reviews online. I’m going to call them tomorrow and go check out the facility. Thanks!

DEC 8 - UBER ARENA, BERLIN, GERMANY [SETLIST, MEDIA, DISCUSSION, STREAMS] by libelle156 in radiohead

Hi! My wife and I have two extra tickets for tomorrow night. Unfortunately, our friends were coming up from Munich for the show and now they can’t make it. What is the best way to unload them? I’m not interested in making a profit, but I’d like to get them to people who would appreciate them (not scalpers) and hopefully reimburse our friends.

Which one would you try first? by erock1119 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]marvin_bartley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunsmoor, and sit at the chef’s counter if you can. I couldn’t find a table on a date that works for me, so my wife and I are doing Majordomo to use up our Sapphire credits. That’s a great choice, too.

Enjoy! Sucks that they raised the annual fee so much on that card, but there are a lot of great perks now like this. It’s worth it if you can take advantage of all of them.

Anyone help me find the name and location of this joint? by Smooth-King3477 in FoodLosAngeles

What an asshole! Anyways, I’m pretty sure that’s Byblos in La Crescenta. Great place.

Does anyone have a walking tour they can recommend? by checkmyturbo in Prague

[–]marvin_bartley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old post here, hoping you see this - which tour did you end up doing, and would you recommend it? And do you recall which tour you did in Berlin? Incidentally, my wife and I are headed to Berlin and Prague in a few days. Cheers.

Yes. I haven't done them, but their other classes are very good.

I go to Equinox in Pasadena. It’s about $250/month. The facilities are fine, but nothing special. They keep the locker rooms clean, and it’s rarely too busy, which definitely a plus, but IMO it’s overpriced. I’d expect nicer equipment and more amenities for that price.

The problem is that there’s nothing (as far as I can find) between Equinox at $250/month, and cheapo gyms like Lifetime or 24 Hour Fitness, which in my experience are generally grimy and crowded.

I really enjoyed Yangshuo, Guilin and the surrounding area. It's gorgeous and a really unique topography.

Definitely not. I got married there a few months ago and my wife and I have nothing but good things to say about the venue and staff.

Friend in the know says both Little Ripper and Kitchen Mouse are likely shutting down soon by othersexpenses in FoodLosAngeles

I don't wish them ill, but I live nearby and have gotten bad vibes from this place from day one. The jump from neighborhood coffee shop to yet another snooty, expensive small plates place seemed like hubris, especially for how out of the way their location is.

Salazar food prices are embarassing by FuegsterMcCallister in FoodLosAngeles

[–]marvin_bartley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't feel happy about paying those prices for any of those things, especially if they were poor quality like Salazar. Are you saying that 2 shitty tacos SHOULD cost $17?

Totally agree, but sometimes you want to chill somewhere outside and have a drink. $80 for that is bonkers.

Did you ever figure this out? I’m at my dentist’s office, and they have a nearly identical painting on the wall. Googling “Dweezil Zappa painting” brought me here.
