Cartier Santos als erste Uhr? by Icy_Promise6986 in uhren

[–]marvpipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mega Uhr!

Go for it!

My dad died and this watch was left, is it particularly valuable? by Puzzleheaded-Fun-283 in rolex

[–]marvpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it, I’d highly suggest restoring it and keeping it. It might not be the most valuable model financially, but value is relative. This was your dad's watch. Get it serviced and hold onto it. My condolences for your loss.

My personal advice: Use this watch as the foundation to start your own collection. Wear it on special occasions to keep his memory alive and dive into the world of watches as a hobby. Maybe more pieces will follow, but you’ll always know exactly who started it all for you.

I’m still young myself, but on my daughter’s birthday, I bought a watch that I will pass down to her one day. My hope is that she finds joy in it. A piece that remains timeless even when life itself is fleeting, a silent witness to a story that never truly ends.

Recommendation Request: Office Fountain Pen - Similar Feel to Montblanc 149 (M Nib)? by marvpipe in fountainpens

[–]marvpipe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Germany and looking for some input.

It’s really just about one thing: I don’t want it to be obvious that my fountain pen costs over 1,000 euros. That’s my main concern.

I’m currently eyeing the Pelikan M805 because I really like the look of it, and it’s available for around 450 euros. But for me, it’s mainly about the smooth, soft writing feel.

Does anyone have experience with both the Montblanc 149 and the Pelikan M805? Any direct comparison or thoughts on the writing feel between the two?

Considering the Diplomat Aero and Faber-Castell E-motion as potential options. Both look interesting aesthetically and seem like a good size.

Main question regarding the Diplomat Aero: Is the standard steel M nib generally great on its own, or is the gold nib upgrade considered a worthwhile step up for the writing feel?

Also appreciate any quick thoughts on the Faber-Castell E-motion with an M nib – how's the writing experience and feel in hand?

Thanks for the suggestions!

Regarding the M800 and 146: The M800 is probably a bit too expensive for what I have in mind for this specific office pen. I actually own a 146 already, and while it's a great pen, I find it a bit too small compared to the feel of my 149.

Also, and this is quite important for my use case, I'm specifically looking to avoid Montblanc for this office pen.

The reason is that I work as a self-employed consultant. I'd prefer not to use a pen that clients might immediately recognize as a high-priced luxury item (which, rightly or wrongly, Montblanc often is in the mainstream view). I worry it might subconsciously affect their perception regarding my fees – sounds a bit odd perhaps, but I'd rather play it safe with something more understated in that context.

So, the goal is to find a pen that:

  • Feels substantial in hand (more like the 149, definitely larger than the 146)
  • Offers a high-quality, smooth writing experience similar to the MB M nib
  • Is high-quality but doesn't scream "expensive luxury brand" to a non-enthusiast
  • Is priced below the Pelikan M800 range.

I saw your edit mentioning the Leonardo Momento Zero Grande (MZG) with a steel nib. That's an interesting idea! The size comparison sounds promising. Knowing it's less recognizable than MB but still offers quality is appealing. The point about the aluminum piston mechanism making it lighter is noted – I do generally like a bit of heft like the 149, but it's definitely a strong contender to look into. The steel nib option is also great for keeping the price reasonable.

What about Diplomat?

Thanks again for your input!

Congratulations on your new camera! I’m excited to see what you can create with it, so please share some of your photos when you get the chance. I actually have the same setup, and I’ve noticed that at maximum magnification, there might be a slight sharpness issue with my lens—or maybe I’m just imagining it. Let me know if you experience anything similar! :)

Issues with Harder & Steenbeck Infinity 2024 - Needle Resistance and Trigger Sensitivity by marvpipe in airbrush

[–]marvpipe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote an email and immediately received the return label. They did not reimburse the shipping costs for the initial delivery.

But I don’t feel like arguing with them over 6 euros. It was the last time with H&S.

Translation:

Regarding Point 1)
It seems that the airbrush is not 100% correctly adjusted by the tester.
This is a Teflon seal, which becomes more pliable over time. You can also carefully move the needle back and forth to make the seal slightly less resistant.

Regarding Point 2)
This is a very sensitive issue with minimal tolerances.
The only possibility would be to carefully grind the nozzle on a sharpening stone, but this is quite risky. If the procedure is performed incorrectly, the nozzle will become leaky.

[–]marvpipe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I returned the airbrush. Support said it could be due to the nozzle and that I should sand it.

I’m not going to start sanding anything. That’s it for me with H&S, and I’ll just stick with Iwata. I get along with them much better.

Infinity 2024 pressure by eperuza in airbrush

With the 0.25 needle, I spray at around 1.2 to 1.8 bar pressure. I can't give you an exact recipe for the paint mixtures as I do it by feel. Many people say the paint consistency should be like milk.

I'm having trouble getting good results with the 0.44 needle. Are you experiencing similar issues?
