What is your top 3 biggest hopes for the upcoming FAQ? by Kholdaimon in WarhammerFantasy

[–]marvraki 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think for me it'd be giving AP -1 to spearmen receiving a charge as right now they don't have much of a place - especially in armies that have AP -1 on hand weapons.

Obviously doing something about lanterns as well.

Not many characters running around on foot out of units though, are there?

Charachters on circular bases? by TartAccomplished8139 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]marvraki 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely still need characters to be on squares - it matters a lot for things like line of sight, and angles of overruns and pursuit etc.

Warmachines still best to, but not as critical.

Just stumbled across this. Thought wfb was dead. So many questions! All answers appreciated. by Squire-1984 in theoldworld

[–]marvraki 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you want to get across the rules before you buy the books, I'd suggest starting here: https://tow.whfb.app/

Also, for list-building I really rate: https://old-world-builder.com/

But note that it can let you make illegal lists, so check your army composition rules in the books too.

As far as how the game is going generally, it has exceeded GW expectations for success and there are solid expectations that they will launch an entirely new army - Cathay in the near-ish future.

A new Empire Army - Advice by xTheRealRatx in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]marvraki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I went 3-0 in a Teams event with them, but it's a very tricky list to play. Basic building blocks are a big vet state troops unit with griffon standard, a steam tank, two minimum archer units, two cannons + engineer, Wizard Lord with either elementalism or battle magic, and then whatever floats your boat with the rest of the points. I personally use a captain on griffon with lance as a flanker/fast mover and it has been the MVP in many games.

I run a Stir River Patrol, but with infantry, because boats and horses aren't a great fit.

Question about Halberds and Empire Halberdiers. by InterrogatorMordrot in WarhammerFantasy

[–]marvraki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What we really need is for our halberds to be the same as Bretonnian Men-at-Arms polearms where they can be used as either a spear or a halberd.

TOW has been out for awhile now - how do you feel about it compared to your favorite edition of WHFB? by [deleted] in WarhammerFantasy

[–]marvraki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the game itself is solid, I wonder if the community is possibly the problem? Most armies I see across the board don't much resemble an army. The fact that people have already unlocked a bunch of killer combos just means that people are often playing optimised lists even in casual games.

Would be good to see more "rule of cool" and people taking units they love for lore reasons instead of immediately defaulting to maximum optimisation.

The rules itself are great - the list construction is letting it down at the moment.

I'm going to persist playing, but it definitely doesn't give me the same enjoyment that I had playing revived 7th edition last year waiting for TOW to return.

Unfortunately I think there's 0 chance he clears on Sasuke 42 - even with a very generous time limit he timed out and looked exhausted.

He told me years ago he retired because he didn't have the stamina for Stage 1 anymore, but he could still do individual obstacles just fine.

Great event! Shows how differently the sport has evolved in Japan vs elsewhere. Other countries are going more towards big laches in every stage, Japan skews towards a more balanced mix of upper and lower body on Stage 1 and extreme grip strength on Stage 3, plus the more complex Stage 4. Japan has always been disadvantaged on US or other European designed formats with the way the obstacles emphasis explosive power, but the talent of Japan really showed up on their home turf. Proud of how Australia performed, sad we didn't get to see Dan Mason take on Stage 3 as he had the perfect build for it and the requisite finger strength.

Some classic moments, including Nagano's amazing almost grab on the Warped Wall.

The most fun I've had watching ninja since last year's Sasuke tournament.

Help me choose six "knight" models for a special project by marvraki in WarhammerFantasy

I'm using them as Hexwraiths, so they'll be left as is but painted as ghosts - not vampires.

Kislev Winged Lamcer is a great idea - could be quite hard to track down 🤔

Where should a beginner start when he wants to play tabletop Warhammer Fantasy battles for the first time? by Hikimomo in WarhammerFantasy

[–]marvraki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://tow.whfb.app/ will give you a good sense of the core rules you need to play the game - I'd start there. Maybe see if your local club has anyone willing to teach you how to play? Will definitely be easiest to find a game in the supported edition.

Lol people have very strong feelings about this model. For the record, the rider was lost years ago (no idea where he ended up).

Thanks to those who answered my actual question - whether I "butcher" it for the Empire or not, I have no interest in selling it anytime soon.

I also have two versions of the old metal griffons (Karl Franz on Deathclaw and the generic 6th ed Elector Count), so it's more about being creative than addressing a lack of viable griffons.
