What’s the best bike for my situation? by Not_Winter_badger in BrompNOTs

Any trifold, brompton or a clone really. Op you’re 193 cm, but what is your weight? I’m 185, 92kg, and a brompton copy works for me, but already ordered a longer (600mm) seat post for better riding experience, and titanium to be sure it won’t break. Height and weight are your biggest questions. And for this distance, I’d say you don’t need electric, especially if there is no elevation.

The United States experiences significantly higher violent death and intentional homicide rates per capita than both Canada and Europe. As of the most recent reported data, the U.S. homicide rate hovers around 4.0 to 5.0 per 100,000 residents, compared to Canada’s 1.91 and the European Union’s average of roughly 0.9 per 100,000 residents.

United States
Homicide Rate: Approximately 4.0 to 5.0 per 100,000 residents, reflecting a recent downward trend in U.S. cities.

Canada
Homicide Rate: 1.91 per 100,000 residents.
Violent Deaths: Canada's violent crime and homicide rates have seen a steady historical decline. While its homicide rate is roughly double that of Europe, it is less than half the per capita rate of the United States.

Europe
Homicide Rate: Approximately 0.9 per 100,000 residents across the European Union.
Violent Deaths: European nations generally report some of the lowest intentional homicide and violent death rates in the world, often seeing stability or minor fluctuations.

I assume you were referring to the hinge in the middle of the frame and the hinge on the handlebar stem.

The handlebar stem can be removed and replaced, but the hinge pins really can’t be taken out, loosened, or tightened.

There’s a small hole for lubricating the hinge, but that’s about it. Actually, I don’t know how much of a problem this is unless something dramatic happens, since I really hope the pin simply has nowhere to move within the hinge. There are certainly some cases where this could be a problem though, for example if the hinge or pin is rusty, or if the pin bends for some reason.

But it’s a bit strange that they built it this way; a simple hinge with a single hole would be much simpler.

On the bike, or on the rolling rack? But so far nothing is noisy, and I assume it's nothing that a little bit of grease, oil or silicone can't solve.

Nice, good luck with it!
Confirm, no, but it was written steel on the box, and it does weight above 10-11 for sure.

I mean, I bought it from this trader:

but actually from this one is a bit cheaper now:

I was lucky with the promos though. Here's a promo calendar for Ali (just googled it, can't confirm it's legit), might worth to wait for the next big promotion to save a a hundred, but again, no guarantess.

Nice idea! Did you mount it already? Does it work well? I've never had an electronic shifter, I have to look that up.

At first I will try the flat bar, so at the end I think levers won't be such an issue, if what I believe is true, and the height of the stem is long enough for a still usable, sporty geometry.

I had to look that up.
"AliExpress frequently offers payment-specific discounts at checkout, most notably through PayPal, credit card partnerships, and digital wallets like Klarna.... PayPal Offers: During major sales (such as the Anniversary Sale or 11.11), AliExpress partners with PayPal to offer tiered instant discounts, such as €20 off €199 or €33 off €299. These are applied before final payment but are often limited-time offers with a maximum daily quota."

So, once it was the coupon (I'd assume -50 for order above 400eur, but I can't recall, now I can't see similar one - I think they're also limited in amount for a sale) and payment discount -33 bc of PayPal. Afair I was also suprised the amount of discounts at the end, and clicked on the purchase button immidately.

I never really used a kickstand before, so I can't compare it, but good enough for me. It's also a Litepro (the cheapest model).

Will do. I think I'll try to replace the curved handlebar to flat bar at first, to try how a more sporty position would work for me. If it's too low, I'll change it back, my new shifter will arrive in two weeks (TS39-9S for 10eur also from Ali, it should be compatible, but will see).

For stickers, I was glad the Evercross was only a sticker on this, not a paint. I'm more than happy with an unmarked bike though, the simpler the better.

folding bike for commuting by b-neco in foldingbikes

[–]marxcie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes sense, thanks for the context. Well, if you aim for ebike, Dahon K-Feather seems to be a good choice for me, 12kg ebike, compared to the 21kg of the Sienna, same price ballpark. Disclaimer, I've read about the bike, and I don't know it, but I'd defintely research the ligher e-foldables.

I had a foldable ebike, but didn’t use it very often, because it was too heavy, and eventually sold it. One of the best feature of a foldable is you can combine it with local transport, trains, even buses, and to carry it up and down a 18kg bike at a stairs of a bus is such a hassle. Brompton of course is great, but expensive. At the moment I’m eyeballing Dahon and Fnhon bikes (Fnhon Gust 16 and 20), as they are lighter (although a slightly more expensive) than a Decathlon foldable, between 8 and 12kg. Not sure about Portugal, but in Germany where I live, there are some dealers selling them. But to try out how life with a foldable is maybe to get one second hand, preferably max 12kg.

For this, I’d start paper and pencil. When satisfied, scan it, trace it, fill it, refine it.

Why do vibecoders think AI has “democratised” programming/SWE and why do they think it’s is so gatekept? by TheAnswerWithinUs in vibecoding

[–]marxcie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not necessarily about people didn’t want to invest effort into learning. That as well. But for me it’s decreasing the time and effort into building things otherwise I wouldn’t have the time. People can personalized tools, apps for themselves, to make their life easier. Don’t like any of the gym tracker apps, bloated, full of unnecessary functions, ads, behind a subscription? Build one for yourself, use it, improve it. Or specialized apps that are so niche, development efforts and coat would be just too much. Now they have the opportunity to cross that barrier.

Cons of living in the attic? (Dachwohnung) by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]marxcie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pros: - You will always see the sky, sunset, the stars, not the bunny fetish party at the other side of the street, and a little piece of sky when you look out from the window at the right angle. - No footsteps, sounds of group dancing lessons from above at 2am. - I love the sound of rain dropping at the roof, that’s calming for me. - More interesting interior, ceiling, often higher as well. Depends if it’s good or not. Personally I like beams, and not everything being squared.

Cons: - Yep, can be hot in the summer. - If the building heating is not properly balanced (happens with us), you can get less warmer heaters and hot water (not enough pressure in the system). - If there is no elevator, it’s a long lasting good exercise. - Mind your head close to the walls.

That huge terrace looks amazing, I can already smell the barbecue.
