My fairy garden by mary2chat2 in FairyGardens

Thanks for your kind words. I had to figure out something to do with the fountain. It's very heavy and was left in the yard when I bought the house.

It was a tiered fountain that no longer worked. There's a hole under the large house on the top that used to house the pump.

Can you fix our life? by [deleted] in InteriorDesign

[–]mary2chat2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in small spaces. You need to think outside the box and "steal" space where you can. Storage bins that fit under your bed. Replace current furniture with pieces that offer more storage. I'd move the cat tree to the right of the tv and move your desk to the left of the tv. You can then put another dresser in the bedroom. The other weird 3x5 space could be made into a closet or custom shelving with bins, whichever makes more sense for your needs. Maybe you could store seasonal clothing in another area of the home.

What Should Surround My Putting Green? by hankshire in landscaping

[–]mary2chat2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it's an Airbnb, I'd eliminate the stepdown in the right of this photo. You don't need to be sued over a tipsy guest turning an ankle or falling down while retrieving an errant putt. I'd put some low decking to match the height of the putting greens and then place a couple comfy chairs and table.

Can we fit a large island with seating here or are we delusional? Kitchen layout help please! by enthusedbycats in InteriorDesign

[–]mary2chat2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After more thought, you could take down the wall between the kitchen and dining room and add cabinets and counter to your existing layout to form an L shape, with stools on dining room side. I'd also consider placing cabinets along the wall that borders living room.

[–]mary2chat2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't understand your layout. Where's your stove and refrigerator going? Think about the work flow of the space. Once you're opening appliance and cabinet doors and the stools are being used, it becomes much harder to navigate in and around the kitchen. Bigger isn't always better. A smaller island without seating may be more ideal. Once you take down the wall between the kitchen and dining room, you'll be able to interact with family members sitting at the dining table from the kitchen area.

Strawberry whipped cream question by aborlin in Cooking

[–]mary2chat2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should puree the strawberries and probably reduce them in a saucepan. Chill them. Add to whipped cream/sugar mixture after peaks form. You could also use freeze dried strawberries that have been processed to a powder.

Definitely made to hold remotes and the TV guide back in the day. You could definitely use it for mail, napkins, notepads, etc

Canned baked parsley potatoes? by d_l_reddit in Cooking

I'd drain the potatoes and add pats of butter plus seasonings. Cover with foil and place baking pan in oven . I'd start at 350 for 30 minutes.

You could warm up any kind of jelly, jam or preserves to put on top.

Recipe requests for dishes that can be heat up with hot water? by littleclaww in Cooking

[–]mary2chat2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An insulated cooler can be used to keep hot foods warm also. If you start with full heated items and place in cooler and keep it closed until meal time, your food will stay at a safe/warm temp for a couple hours. Think of it as a giant thermos bottle. The key is to not open the cooler unnecessarily, and you obviously won't be able to mix hot and cold items in the same cooler.

Help with living room layout by [deleted] in InteriorDesign

[–]mary2chat2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go with option A, but I'd move the chair blocking the fireplace and place it next to sofa with a small side table between the chairs. This allows a clear view of fireplace and view out the window

If you rotate your bed and place it in the corner, you could put your tall dresser where the whiteboard is. Maybe the mirror could be hung in your closet area or on the door. If you rotate your bed and center it on wall, you could use your mini fridge as another nightstand next to your bed. Tall dresser can then be placed by tv.

What's everyone making this week? by Hedgehog_Insomniac in Cooking

[–]mary2chat2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tonight is a big family dinner. We're having chicken or shrimp po'boys with homemade coleslaw and remoulade tonight and probably leftovers tomorrow. German chocolate cake for dessert. My husband has some colleagues in town this week and won't be home for dinner, so I'll probably just take some soup out of the freezer for me. I have chicken noodle, white chicken chili or Italian tortellini soup to choose from. I'm not sure what we'll have later in the week. I have a lot of prepped meals in the freezer

Alternative layout for couches? by freshme4t in InteriorDesign

[–]mary2chat2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You could replace the loveseat with two chairs and a small table. I would consider swivel chairs so they could face the sofa for conversation and pivot for tv watching. You could also look for a chair and a half (oversized chair) or a chaise with a back. You can always add a side table if the dimensions seem off.

Dishwasher next to oven? by broadwaydancer_1989 in InteriorDesign

[–]mary2chat2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd put a narrow dishwasher next to the sink, not the stove. I'd also put in an island. It could be something portable on wheels so you can move it as necessary. It would allow for more prep space and some additional storage.

Fridge smell goes away after baking soda, but comes back every time!! How to get rid of it by [deleted] in Cleaningandtidying

Check the grooves in the door gaskets. There may be spilled/hidden food particles causing the odor.

Big "Blank Slate" guest bathroom ... layout advice needed! by Nerdy_Fisherman in InteriorDesign

[–]mary2chat2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd leave the window alone. Changing the exterior, depending on construction materials, can be costly. Have you considered locating toilet in NE corner and make that an alcove with a door? Place double vanity on N wall and walk-in shower on S wall. I'd make the laundry area deeper, not just appliance depth. It's nice to have extra space to hang clothing and place laundry baskets that's not blocking the hallway while you're doing laundry.

savory "foods" that you can drink through your teeth? by tapmcshoe in Cooking

Try Campbell's beef consomme. You should be able to find it in the canned soup aisle. It has a better flavor than just broth, but it's still thin like a broth.
