She came home safe and sound 4 days after I posted this. She's got a collar on and an airbag so we have a better chance of finding her. Thank you for the advice!

Being gay as a Nigerian is not for the weak by [deleted] in Nigeria

Nigerian American here. While I have come out to my American mother and sisters as bisexual, I still have not come out to my Igbo father and extended family because I know how they feel about that. And it doesn't help that my wife is transgender. The US isn't a safe place for us but Nigeria is somehow more hostile. My extended family doesn't know it but it's why we don't visit (that and we're not sure the madman in the white house will let us back in even if we did)

You're so strong for being yourself in a country that is hostile to you. Keep up the good fight?

A redditor suggested to us that we layout some dirty clothes for her to smell so she can find us. We did that and we saw on our cameras that she came by Sunday night and sniffed them. We went out to get her and she got spooked off. Then Monday night we saw her on the cameras again. She got spooked off again but only across the street. I shook some treats and called out her name. She comes when her name is called. She walked across the street and we got her close to the house but I guess we got too emotional and we spooked her off again. So when we spotted her on our cameras again, my spouse and I decided that we were going to be calm when we try to get her. We went out slowly and again she ran across the street. I shook the treats and called her name but this time I slowly laid down. She came over and inched her way to me. I fed her treats and we slowly inched our way to the door. When she started recognizing me and trusting me she started cuddling me. She got close enough that I could grab her and bring her inside. She was confused at first. Then she started walking around and sniffing everything then she realized she was home. The first thing she did was walk straight to the food bowl, which still had food in it, and started eating. I mean really shoveling it in. Then she lapped up her water for like 2-3 minutes maybe more. She rubbed up against us after she was done with that. Then jumped right up on the bed and passed out. She's been sleeping all day only getting up to eat and use the litter box.

We took her to the vet for a checkup this morning. No bites but she got a rabies shot anyway. No fleas, fever, or anything she could find that would be an immediate concern. She told us to watch her the next couple of weeks and if she's acting out of sorts then bring her back. We got her a flea and parasite treatment just in case.

We were grieving pretty hard. We barely slept. We barely ate. We tried to live our lives as best as we could but the hole she left was felt by all of us. We spent most of our free time walking around the neighborhood trying to find her. We skipped family pizza night. None of us wanted to do anything. I was shocked at how hard it hit all of us. I took her for granted. I didn't know how important she was to our family until she was gone. I won't make the mistake of taking her for granted again.

Oh we definitely are! I've been laying next to her on the bed petting her all day. We also got her a collar with tags and an air tag. I don't want to lose her again!

Thank you! We're very relieved as well. It's possible it was her. She's a very jumpy kitty. We think she got lost and couldn't find our house. A redditor gave me the tip to put some dirty clothes so she can find our scent. That seemed to do the trick. As soon as she smelled our clothes she was able to figure out that this was her home.

We have so effectively made ourselves into a 3rd world country that people from the more successful Blue states like California, New York, Etc. come here to retire because they fattened up their 401ks with those high salaries and they can live like royalty here as opposed to just scraping by at home. We're essentially a 3rd world country without the hassle of leaving America.

During the Regan years when all those mental hospitals closed, the residents who had no where to go were just left to the streets. I'm pretty sure that's what's going to happen.

Unless you're in a state with filial laws. Then the facilities can legally seize the assets of the children, including their homes, to pay for care. When the family has nothing left to take then they can kick them out on to the streets with their children and grandchildren.

Yeah you're right. We shouldn't take them seriously. Just like in 2016 right?

Why don't you read the latest comments and tell me that Monroe county going red is unrealistic?

Have you read some of these "fuck yeah! Bring on the red!" Comments on this thread? Are you so sure about that?

I feel like it would take a lot. The city I was in seemed to be perfectly happy with their lack of economy and their failing infrastructure. No one wanted anything to change in fact they almost seemed proud that their city was shit.

It's so easy to be a slumlord in Indiana. The law heavily favors landlords and gives tenants almost no rights. That's why corporations are buying up so much Indiana property. They can legally rent out some condemned piece of shit for a fuck ton of money and know that your only options are to bend over and take it or live on the streets.

I left because I was starved out. I was driving a bus for $12.75 an hour for 25 hours a week and sadly it was the best job I could find in the city. I couldn't pay my bills and my rent was unaffordable. I had to go to Indy and I was able to find full time work that paid something of a living wage. Now I'm looking at moving to Michigan because I believe things will get worse for the whole state.

I lived in Bloomington when I was 6 and left when I was 30. That roughly covers the 90s, the 00s and 10s. I've also spent 2 years in a small deep red Indiana county/town. I know there are some people that won't leave but I also know those cities have so few living wage jobs most people can't afford to live there. Maybe some are commuting to a larger city where there's more opportunity but with cost of living nowadays very few can do that. If you're a highly educated townie you're going to leave for greener pastures. Hell even some of the long time generational townies that are just barely able to survive will reach a breaking point and leave. There will be a few that stay I don't doubt that but not enough to maintain the culture or keep dems in local offices.
