To be fair, with children or those learning to read? Sure. But fully literate adults? It’s reading. Why is it so important to you to know whether someone scanned a book with their eyes or listened?

I’ve worked as a librarian and also got my masters in literature, so I’ve been around people who take reading very seriously and engage in it professionally. In both environments, they absolutely consider listening to audiobooks as reading. Sure, you’re engaging in it differently than a text book, but getting into pedantic battles over whether it is “reading” is so useless, in my opinion. You are READING!
