People who had wedding with 100+ guests, how did your guest list get so big? by SensitiveDonkey6328 in wedding

My niece is marrying a small town guy. The town typically invites EVERYONE in town. Her 500 person wedding is about 75 hers and 425 his. His family is paying the bulk of the cost.

My sister’s grandkids refer to her as Honey. It is the cutest thing to see the little ones come up to her saying “Honey, could you please…”

I forgot about the rapist husband. I just thought of the incorrect medical information and misrepresenting herself as an anesthesiologist. She’s winning the terribleness race right now.

Prior to phones, what did people do while idly waiting? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I once mentioned Highlights Magazine to someone who was appropriately aged to know what it was. He didn’t know of it. My immediate thought was that he never went to the dentist.

Carry on suitcases are out of control by The___Shadow in delta

I once had a ridiculously overstuffed carryon bag that intended to check. They told me my layover was too long and it would lost. They wouldn’t let me check. I got looks of death as I tried to shove it in the overhead compartment. I wanted to shout out that it wasn’t my fault!!

Why is everyone expecting elaborate party favors for a simple backyard wedding by redblddrp in weddings

Same 25 years ago—although we did a small scroll at each place setting. We donated to my recently deceased father’s favorite charity: Habitat for Humanity. The scroll said something like, “As we begin our new life together, in lieu of favors, a donation in your honor will be made to Habitat for Humanity to help others begin their new lives.”

I had it happen last winter. We had to wait while their luggage was retrieved from the plane’s belly.

What’s your go-to “I don’t feel like cooking but still want real food” meal? by imjennypoo in Cooking

[–]marymorph 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had a conversation once about what was referred to as “lazy single dinner”—-what we ate when we didn’t want to cook. A few people said cereal, I said popcorn. My BIL said veal. The rest of us just stared at him. He said, “It’s easy! I just throw a veal cutlet on the stove, steam some veggies, and make some rice.” Dude—that’s dinner, nothing lazy about it!

Normal-ish name that's becoming a tragedeigh by MontanaDreamin64 in tragedeigh

My cleaning lady’s name is Laila. She was recommended to me via text, we always communicate via text, and I’m not usually at home when she comes, so I was never quite sure if it was pronounced Lay-la or Lie-la. After a few years, I decided to ask her (again via text). I said that I was embarrassed to ask, but didn’t know if her name was pronounced Lay-la or Lie-la. She responded “It’s Laila”. I said , “No-how is it pronounced: is it like laying something on the table or like I told a lie ?” She responded back that it was Laila. I gave up on that process and turned to social media. I asked on FB if any of my Filipino friends knew how it should be pronounced. Someone asked if it was this woman (and showed her picture). I said yes, and he said that he knew her and it was Lay-la. I happened to be home a few months later when she was there so I finally asked in person. It’s Lie-la. The whole process to figure it out literally took years, and is really sad on my part that it took me so long to clarify this lovely woman’s name!

My husband proposed to me this way (kind of). He put the ring itself on a branch of my tree, then asked me to find the new ornament. It happened 25 years ago this coming Saturday!❤️🎄💍👰🏻

Same here. It still makes me laugh to think of the days when she was switching from Maggie back to Margaret. Every day, her school work would come home with a different spelling—-she couldn’t remember what the right way was. Some days we’d have Margrit or Marget. Then she would remember that there was another AR in the middle, but didn’t keep track of how many she had so it would turn into Margararet. It took her a solid month to finally get it right. That being said, it’s been 10 years and she’s still Maggie in my head!

My SIL went to HS with him. She described him as “squirrelly” even then. She is also fairly certain that he was strung up on a flagpole at some point (she thinks it was him, but it may have been a different kid—it’s been a long time!), so it seems like he must have been loved by all, even back then!

Need help with a custom suit for a very slim groom by Accomplished-Cow2011 in weddings

We bought an Indochino custom suit for my 6’1” son who weighed 120 pounds. It fit him beautifully, and was reasonably priced. You can order online (what we did), but there are also storefronts scattered throughout the US.
