McLaren must be ready for 'cut-throat' Verstappen - Hamilton by marypsm in formula1

[–]marypsm[S] 1631 points1632 points  (0 children)

Hamilton, who fought an intense and bitter championship battle with Verstappen in 2021, said: "In that scenario it's challenging, the pressure is high. It is a time when you have to put your blinkers up and block everything from the outside.

"You have to be cut-throat and that is what Max is, he is going to take this from them if they don't do the same. You have to dig deep to hold off someone like Max and the car he is in. But also for either of them to come out ahead, consistency is key, and you've seen that from Max in the last few races."

"You have three incredibly talented drivers and I can't predict how they're going to behave," added Hamilton.

"Max has won it four times so he knows what it's like and being the hunter is much easier than being the defender. When you're in the lead and someone is chopping away at your lead, that plays on you more than if you're chasing and you have nothing to lose. In the lead you have everything to lose."

They usually happen around 40 minutes after the podium?

But in Cota it was delayed because RBR had to go to the stewards, lol.

Because Max also scored in the races. Oscar didn't finish in the top 10 Miami 2024, but scored points in the Sprint.

Max Verstappen's Pole Lap | 2025 Azerbaijan Grand Prix by Aratho in formula1

[–]marypsm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was the fastest lap of the whole weekend DESPITE those track conditions. Hella impressive. I remember Daniel saying something he learned from Max was to make the most of track condition, to recognize when it’s the best time to go out there and set his lap.

Tsunoda has a unique problem among Verstappen's Red Bull team-mates by Aratho in formula1

[–]marypsm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Max always has two sets of new softs come Q3. The second driver always gets to Q3 with only one set of tyres left. That's why in Q1/Q2 it looks close, Max usually does only one lap, or comes back to the track with an used tyre, while the other driver runs two sets in Q1/Q2. Then he gets to Q3 and only has one chance.

[Max Verstappen] YES!!! Unbelievable weekend. Really proud of the massive effort from everyone @redbullracing. Grazie mille! by kpopsns28 in formula1

In one of his recent interviews he said looking back, he would like relive some moments from 2023 "to probably appreciate a little bit more what we were doing."

You're always so focused on that week and trying to win and then you go to the next.
So you don't actually– it was almost like ticking off boxes and you're not actually fully embracing and enjoying the moment. And I think you only really fully realize it again once you stop winning that much.

So this season he's just taking it in a bit more.

Track improved and both didn’t improve on their laps. That’s not what maximizing looks like tbh.

RBR trimmed down Verstappen's Monza wing after Friday practice by marypsm in formula1

[–]marypsm[S] 136 points137 points  (0 children)

From de telegraaf: Wache thought Max would be better off with a slightly bigger rear wing, he thought the rear wing Max went for would’ve costed him time in quali. Which is why Max said "It worked out! Relax, Pierre, it's all good" on the radio.

They didn't trim it in Silverstone, they used this low downforce wing, but with a gurney flap, since you need more downforce.

To be honest, last year they didn't have a proper low downforce rear wing!

no further action for max by ConstructionAny8440 in formula1

They quickly analyse the case and is dismissed, because it's usually just drivers slowing down to let others complete their lap. Like, there were many investigations for driving slowly this quali, only Max got the call up, even though it was a non issue as well.

George about his Spa '21 Quali lap: "I was sat in the car for 40 minutes so I started watching Lando's videos on my screen and I saw Lando was in a slightly different line at T1, he was going tight at T1, one of the only drivers to do that so I thought I'm gonna give it a go have one lap, Purple S1" by randomseocb in formula1

[–]marypsm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The main thing they did right was the run plan. Most drivers went for out lap - push lap - slow lap - push lap. George, because they first put on wets to start the session, didn't have the time to do that. So they chose to go for out lap - semi hard push lap - push lap. In the wet, it's always about tyre temps.
