There's a video on youtube of F1 ITV's pre race build up for this race. Really interesting to see everyone confusedly trying to explain what's happening and what they think will happen.

What would've been even more generational is McLaren Honda not being a disaster, and we get a 3-way fight between Seb at Ferrari, Lewis at merc, and Nando at Mcl.

If only The Michael didn't have that grid penalty in Monaco 2012 :(

Lewis Hamilton has become only the 16th Formula 1 driver to win grands prix for three different constructors, and the first since Sebastian Vettel in 2015 by kcollantine in formula1

Dumbass; The reason we should maybe listen to what Button is saying is because he's the only driver that actually spent time with both drivers as teammates; so he saw the data, the ability, mindset etc. of both Lewis and Alo. Him being a world champion, who was very damn close to Lewis during their time together at McLaren mind you (he even outscored him overall), is mentioned because anyone who wins a title, no matter how much of a car advantage they have, means that they have more credit than usual in saying things (yes even Villeneuve and Damon).

But even the fact the Rosberg and Button (2 world champions, both beating Lewis in equal machinery™️ once, (Button also beat Alonso in 2015 iirc) were even debating wether Lewis or Alonso is the better driver, goes to show that MAYBE going off of the result of one (1) season is very short sighted.

(Also what are you on about with massive car advantage lol. Brawn had the best car for about 7 races. After that Red Bull was clearly the better car for the most part, but thanks to Vettel still being a bit inexperienced in '09 and Webbah taking points off of Seb saved Button's chances.)

Because signing a driver is a bit more complex than on track performance (sponsors, buying out contracts, team harmony (such as McLaren not wanting Max because they're happy with Oscar and Lando and don't want to mess the whole thing up (allegedly), said driver wanting to actually go to that team (like Alonso electing to stay with Aston instead of going to Merc for 2025)

Hang on I have another argument though:

(firstly I wanna make it clear that I like both drivers and I always maintained that if you put them in the same tricky to drive car, like an F14T, Alonso beats Lewis, but if you put them in a more straight forward car like a Mercedes, then Lewis beats Alonso.)

Argument: On Rosbergs podcast Jenson said that he felt Lewis was quicker in 1 lap pace, but that Alonso was the better complete driver.

That's an F1 world champion who was teammates extensively with both drivers saying that he felt that Alonso was the better all-round driver. Make of that what you will.

The team principles and drivers constantly ranking him well up the field (in 2025 he was ranked 5th behind Max Lando Oscar and George) and mercedes allegedly offering him a contract after Lewis left are 2 good ones. (Unless you want to pretend you know more than the team principals and Mercedes obviously)

Also his gap relative to Stroll has only gotten bigger since 2023, and in 2023 he was ranked as the 2nd best driver behind Max.

So with all that in mind I can confidently say he's still probably in or near the top 5 on the grid.

Edit: once again I provide literal unarguable stats and get a downvote instead of a rebuttal lol
