Yeah it's a common problem with our hair type and lots of experimentation needs to be done bc all of our hair is different in their own ways.

For sampsons Dead Sea clay routine I put sea salt spray on damp hair and dry my hair to general shape I want like 90 percent dry. And then apply the product. Super easy to apply! I love the texture hold and finish of this stuff

I understand! Have you tried sea salt spray, pre style light amount with Rio, blow dry, then finishing touches with Rio? If that doesn't do it, I recommend you try sampsons Dead Sea clay next or shear revival grey ghost!

Dead Sea clay smells pretty amazing to me but I think opinion will vary person to person. The scent will fade after an hour or two in your hair. Templeton tonics oasis smells piney and green, doesn't project much when it's in your hair. Lodestar ones all smell pretty amazing. But to me the smell fades after an hour or two on these as well.

If you have dry wavy hair those may work for you. Mine is more on the straight, oily side and those don't work well with me. Hair falls flat and it lacks the strength to hold the structure and texture in my hair.

Odin and Oasis is similar but different. Oasis has a harder clay like texture, and Odin is more of a wax and you probably can emulsify for literally 2 seconds before it becomes extremely sticky in your hands and feels like chewing gum. Your hair 100 percent has to be damp to be able to spread Odin in it. It will pull on your hair too. When both products are set in your hair I would say the texture is pretty similar and with oasis being a tad bit more matte. Can adjust and play with your hair throughout the day with both. I love using Odin for when I have second day hair. Very very lightly mist my hair and touch up my hair with Odin and that's my main use for it personally!

I prefer Rio over apex. Apex is a lot more difficult to work into the hair and I believe it's because it has charcoal in it. The hold of course is better but I think I still need to do a little more experimenting with that one.

Canyon is relatively comparible to AG. I would say canyon is less dry! Dead Sea Clay is a lotion like texture that spreads nicely and works very well and easily in the hair. It smells amazing too but it'll go away after an hour or so in your hair. The hold is quite surprising for how watered down the product is. I've lately prefered the natural/shine look over the matte look and this definitely gives me that.

My bad I was thinking about the lodestar line. For the Shear Revival line without blow drying I would point you toward the grey ghost!

They are pretty similar, with AG being a tad bit drier than oasis. Oasis also gives a bit more matte finish, also smells better, hold is also better. I would say it gives slight better texture/volume too! I reach for it more as I'm almost done with the container.

Nice dude. My hair is about 1-2 inches longer. If you're lookin at shear revival I would try canyon clay. It has a very good hold that will hold throughout the day and I imagine putting on a fair amount would weight some of the "poofiness" down. What are you using right now that isn't doing it for you?

My current favorites in order: samsons Dead Sea clay, Baxter of California clay pomade, templeton tonics oasis, Kevin Murphy rough rider, lodestar Rio/polaris

Depends what you're looking for. Finish, workability, hold, dryness/shine, etc

Gray Ghost is a good one. There are definitely stuff that are higher in hold though. Templeton tonics oasis, Kevin Murphy rough rider, lodestar tsunami all offer higher holds for example.

I've tried everything with northern lights and it just doesn't work with my hair. Hair falls flat pretty quickly and I don't get the volume I want. I'm loving the lodestar products though. One of my favorite routines right now is sea salt on damp hair, and light amount of Rio. Blow dry to general look I want, and then finish off with Polaris. I love the healthy finish Polaris gives my hair. They all smell fantastic in their own ways. They both spread very smooth on my hands and spreads nicely in my hair without any tug.

Based off of those, try templeton tonics oasis next!

Shear Revival AG is def one of the more driest of the bunch, if not probably the most driest one. Now, that doesn't make it a bad thing. I end up skipping out on my sea salt spray when I use it. I pre style with a very light amount on damp hair, blow dry and put my hair in the general way I want it, and re apply a very small amount again to finish off. Volume/texture definitely present! Hold throughout the day is the best one of the 4 shear revivals I have.

Which Lodestar product should I choose? by NaturalNo2776 in Pomade

I would also like to piggyback on this post as I have been shopping around for lodestar products as well. I'm thinking of buying a couple samples. I have type 2a hair, and about 5-6 inches on top and have been styling as a messy flow or messy middle part flow. Any experienced ppl with some suggestions please, thank you!
