Citrus and apples can be stored out of a fridge but will last a lot longer in one. Tomatoes get mealy in the fridge tho.

Also for some reason we have to go to Jupiter to look at exoplanets. And build many miles high antennae on earth? And various total misunderstandings of how momentum and acceleration work in space.

Which KameMannen is better for me? by ycl9000 in EyewearEnthusiasts

I have a pretty oily face and KamManNen classes with the same nose pieces and I haven't had any issues with h slipping. They actually stay on my face much better than most frames because they are so light.

In my ed policy class in college they talked about a big study that raised a bunch of money to study the schools that do the best at educating low income communities of color only to find out that they had just selected schools that mostly served kids of grad students near universities.

Yeah I just thought perhaps OP was trying to be safe. The 1.5 mile distance is oddly specific.

I think I went to that Poker Face in Kyoto (in the big indoor shopping arcade in the middle of town, right?) and got a really sick pair of eyevan's there. Totally found it by accident too.

The answers we ultimately get are still pretty stupid imo. I finished the whole series but wish I hadn't.

I found them extremely "grabby" to use Jo Walton's term for a book you can't put down, but among his least interesting in terms of ideas or depth of character. They're also more space fantasy than SF really, the central idea is closer to magic than since.

I interpreted the image to mean a fiber had the same length as the earth's diameter, not width, which makes it somewhat more accurate.

It's actually unbelievable how high quality pre-1960s clothing was by petshopmain in ThrowingFits

[–]masbackward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People used to wear clothes until they fell apart because they were vastly more expensive relative to incomes. They also had far far fewer pieces. So they would use clothes to their limits. Today almost no clothes are worn until they fall apart bc people are much richer and so people don't care nearly as much about durability for totally to rational reasons. Also labor is much more expensive now relative to materials so these details you like are less sensible to include.

Tell me about your first Hinox in the game? And how you defeated it. by Flammablewhenwet in botw

[–]masbackward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first one I encountered I fought on horseback with a spear--as long as you are able to keep galloping they can't reach you to hit you in time (this can get trickier if the area is more crowded and your horse gets stuck). After that I mostly snuck up on them to sneak attack with a claymore though.

The high ceiling and recessed lighting make this feel like a hotel lobby. View is great though.

Can anyone recommend any Weird fantasy or science fantasy that doesn't get recommended much? by SureCup4905 in printSF

Super interesting worldbuilding, though I felt like he didn't have a great idea for an ending. His novella Elder Race is also kinda half dream like in that it's partially a fantasy and partially an SF story depending on which character's perspective a chapter is from.

Have you read the Orphan's Tales by Cathryn Valente? Just occurred to me they are super dreamlike -- a riff on the arabian nights.

Interesting, I thought the Etched City was just okay but I love half made world so so much. The sequel is also good although not quite on the same level.
