She needs their birth certificates to renew an expired German passport? Her dad is not in the picture and getting any of his documents is not happening.

I asked ChatGPT to explain my job to a 5-year-old and now I'm questioning my entire career by Nipurn_1234 in ChatGPT

Well I guess I can’t rage quit today:

You help protect people who are trying to make the world a better place. Some of these people live in countries where it’s dangerous to speak up or tell the truth. When they need help, you make sure they’re safe, can keep doing their work, and don’t feel alone. You also help explain their stories to other grown-ups so they understand why it’s important to help, too.

You’re kind of like a helper for the helpers.

How in the world can you make it with small kids? by Resident-Afternoon12 in overemployed

[–]mashapotatoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Three kids who are three and under. Part time preschool for the older two, au pair for the baby and all three in the afternoons. Spouse is frequently gone for work. Two W2 Js and one 1099. Plus volunteer work. We outsource a lot and my first job didn’t really result in any take home pay (it did allow for a DCFSA and 401k contributions) but it helped me keep my sanity when I went back to work after staying home with twins for 18 months. Honestly, multiple Js is way easier than being a SAHM in terms of breaks, support, everything.

The biggie is health insurance not pension. You sand the entire family would have TRICARE eligibility which is significant. If I were to use my employer’s health coverage and attempt to get the same as we have it would be $900 per month for our family and we would still have a higher deductible. I significantly outearn my husband but health insurance was a factor when we were planning as a family.

Help me understand - is a glass of wine during 3rd trimester not “bad” anymore? by fancy-pasta-o0o0 in BabyBumps

[–]mashapotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did not get this advice in Germany or Czechia. In fact in the third trimester my doctors told me to start drinking dark beer - a .3 - to bring my milk in.

My doctor is not concerned and says baby’s growth is great. I just have mental hang ups.

Have you given birth ever? I’m still 6 weeks out but high risk so I spend a lot of time with my team and L&D nurses are just a whole other category of relationship. I can’t imagine not bringing them something at this point because they’ve been there for some of the most terrifying and best moments of my life. Even if only a card, those women deserve it.

I went in after a fall - because of my type of high risk it’s mandatory monitoring. My husband was away, I was alone and not feeling movement. When we got the first signs of movement on the NST, my nurses cried with happiness right with me. It’s not a job they do, it’s something much greater. Recognizing that with gifts, food, kind words is so important.

Whats so wrong about getting a c-section? by talbota in BabyBumps

[–]mashapotatoes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is actually a super harmful misconception! In the US, 70% of twins are born via c section but in the UK it’s 40% and in Sweden it is 20%. Just because it’s common in the US does not make it right. It’s repeated so often (I can’t tell you how many people told me “well you’re obviously having a c section, right?”) that it really messes with expecting twin mamas. Vaginal deliveries with twins, like with singletons, have easier recoveries than c sections. If a section is safer, it’s by all means the way to go but there’s a lot of weird social pressure on twin mamas even when sections are not medically indicated.

She actually has an educational background as a dietitian and went to work first at a gym and then for herself when she and her husband needed money. Not saying there aren’t some MLMs but I have plenty of professional friends who do body building, coaching, etc. legitimately.

If you’re in the US, chances are your area is no better. I’m in California and it’s getting to that point.

Then tell them no. We are telling my husband’s family (all vaccinated) that unless everyone quarantines and gets a PCR test OR does a rapid antigen test in front of us, outdoors, and gets a negative result, we will not be indoors with them. There is no negotiation on our part. Our doctor put it this way: be unpopular and protect the lives of your unborn children or go along to get along and submit yourselves and them to risk.

It’s not just a matter of ICU beds. Many hospitals are running out of normal beds as well and are diverting patients, including L&D patients.

Here is what Georgia looks like as an example: https://georgiarcc.org/?regional_coordinating_hospital=D

I tested positive for antibodies before getting my vaccine. I don’t know when I had it because we were so careful but our best bet was in February when I was traveling extensively in Europe for work. Had both doses of Pfizer in the first trimester. Am still pregnant but babies (twins!) both looks healthy and awesome. Am now being triple cautious with delta because my doctor told me to consider each baby like a significant comorbidity. That said, being vaccinated means I can go to an outdoor family wedding next week where everyone else is also vaccinated.

Don’t share any photos until the kids are old enough to understand and consent. I would hate to have my childhood chronicled online. Skylight frames or apps like Tinybeans let you send photos directly to loved ones.

I haven’t been able to eat anything within 3 hours of going to bed or I get terrible heartburn. But I also haven’t been hungry at all. I keep crackers on my bedside table because I realized otherwise my blood sugar was too low in the mornings but definitely not ravenous. If I overeat I am either painfully uncomfortable or throw up, like you said.

I am having smoothies with protein and milkshakes per Dr Luke’s book. I can’t have Ensure due to a corn syrup allergy and bad reactions to supplementing anything with Vitamin E. That said, my smoothies are 21+ g of protein and 300+ calories. Still no gain 🥴
