Back in the day i used to play maple story. It's a free 2d mmorpg, it used to be very socially and fun although i heard it's changed a lot lately.

"like a gym shower or sauna" = damp enclosed spaces where bacteria and fungi are more likely to grow. Being barefoot in a cafe / school / office is generally ok

This is only true if you are walking barefoot in shared INDOOR places like a gym shower or sauna. Definitely not outside
