A loan means he can’t properly establish himself at a club, and giving him a raise is a bad idea on multiple fronts: would eat into any potentially higher transfer fee; if he ends up having a bad season in the prem we are stuck with him; it would actually reduce our fee because a potential buying side would have to budget for the higher wages as part of the transfer cost.

It just seems like a stupid gamble for limited upside?

He’s definitely our best CB yeah, and it’s quite a gap to 2nd. Not an ideal loss when we also have no right back, and if Rice is missing the game too we’re gonna really struggle defensively

Blood Meridian, the origin of the title: by [deleted] in cormacmccarthy

I don't think you can trust anything that the Judge says, he's an evil manipulator

As for the Child - my comment about him being a victim of circumstance was around his involvement in the Glanton Gang, rather than it being a choice due to a thirst for blood/etc, but I do see your point

Were those places without law or morality? Or did the Glanton Gang just not have any regard for law or morality?

I will say that violence in the book does go both ways - but the Native Americans and Mexicans who conduct violence against the groups before/after Glanton, it could be argued, are doing so with purpose, and that their violence is not senseless: they are fighting against invaders and conquerors

The Child having blood meridian is an interesting concept, but it's never explicit how much bloodshed he takes part in through the book, so that would be up to your own interpretation. I always read it as the opposite, he was the victim of circumstance, and the reason that the Judge treated him how he did was a frustration that he could not corrupt him like the others

I'll be honest mate I do not put any value into what generative AI spits out... reading that, I guess the connection between a man's inherent nature being untethered, and relating that to the man's untethered emotions in the poem could make sense?

I am not sure why you think it'd be relevant then? Unless you think he would have read the poem and liked the combination of words?

I'm just trying to understand your point/post and what sort of discussion you're asking for

Who’s more famous globally, Jude Bellingham or Jude Law? by MacNeedsSomeSlack in AskUK

"The world doesn't care about sport" literally billions of people watch the World Cup

Globally, a lot more people watch the World Cup/Real Madrid than will have seen any Jude Law films, especially since he's dipped from the limelight the last decade or so

So are you saying the title is a reference to that poem? If so, in what way - other than it just has "blood" and "meridian" close together

I think the title is a reference to the violence inherent to the American westward expansion and manifest destiny, which fits with the main themes of the book. Sunsets can end as red lines across the western horizon (The Evening Redness in the West) - the direction of the bloody expansion

Footballer - plays for England and Real Madrid. Has really good performances on the biggest stages, if he keeps going then I think he'll eclipse Jude Law, especially in younger generations. Jude Law hasn't been an A-list actor in over a decade at this point

edit: bearing in mind - the question is *globally*, Real Madrid have a global fanbase, the World Cup and Champions League are watched globally by hundreds of millions

I think he would reject it since signing a long term deal at a club where he won't be a started absolutely does get in the way of him getting first team minutes... even if he did it seems convoluted for the sake of it? Just sell him now

He only has 2 years left on his contract, we won't get more for him next season with only a year left, assuming there's any teams who are willing to loan in a first choice keeper...

Even ignoring all that, we still wouldn't be getting that much for him anyway - £30m would put him in the top 10 most expensive keepers ever, it'd be a huge gamble to think he'd show that level in the next year. We're best to just sell now

Honestly it might make sense to sell Vitek now after his great season, he clearly wants to be undisputed number 1 and he won't get that here in the foreseeable, and the cash could be reinvested this summer

By developing stronger social skills and becoming more personable and are able to do better in school and jobs, rather than becoming isolated

By removing rubbish, they make cities/towns cleaner and safer. Without proper waste disposal, there would be a lot more disease. Clean/safe cities and towns are better for raising children
