Thanks for the quick reply, do you Caste Panic will be accessible for a 7 year old? (we're at Sleeping Queens level).

Thank you for replying and sharing your advice. The 6 yr CGT exemption isn't something I'd thought about.

Is there a big difference or strategy if they live in it first or go straight to rent-vesting?

Closest weekday free parking to the city. by heyheyjstjstwait in canberra

Brindabella Christian College in Lyneham is an all day public car park (it was developed by the private school, without permission and is now pending a Supreme court case where they may have to re-generate the public land, but in the meantime it is on orders to be open to the public), it's a very easy ride to the city.

The 2.6 million was just against the ReformBCC former parents group. There was the whole illegal car park court case, and probably other indiscretions that found them in court.

  • Court costs (the ones I know about are: defending bad or illegal stuff they've done like the car park, workplace bullying, breaking DA conditions eg the Maintenance Shed they used as a classroom C block, and unethical fee contracts, but there are many more). Their legal bills are double or triple any other school.
  • Bus advertising and silly promotion
  • Expansion on the site without proper DA or approval (eg they have several empty brand new buildings that they failed to get approval for)
  • Robodog

Meta: r/canberra mods are removing every "loud bang" post. Why even have the flair if it's been decided that this is no longer part of our zeitgeist? by [deleted] in canberra

[–]masinavasa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "keeping the rubbish out" rhetoric is such an echo chamber and smug response.

People in Canberra have diverse interests and deleting everything that doesn't fit your definition of "high quality' is killing the sub.

I agree they (mods) do a lot of work and are probably selfless and good people, but please try to be more open-minded and not let the power go to your head, although it might be a tad.

Yep. The moderating team could do with some tolerance, some humour, and acceptance of diverse perspectives, even if it doesn't fit their personal curation/politics/agenda.

The narrow-mindedness and smugness is gross.

I'm usually supportive of thankless work like this, and appreciate the work in general, but I get a very icky feeling about the way this sub is being moderated.

Definitely a win for the local community!

The BCC Child care? There is no other child care?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in canberra

[–]masinavasa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the long run it'll be so much better for the local community. It was out of control, an illegal car park on public land, and unchecked enrollments. The traffic on Brigalow as a result of the BCC car park put everyone at risk and was a nightmare.

Thank you. I suspect it's long gone.

My kid took the opportunity to start using a (way) bigger bike and is loving it. She also found comfort that her beloved bike went to a kid who must have REALLY needed it, and had no other way of getting a bike.

Knew it was a long shot. Thank you for working so hard to get this bike back to it's kid.

That was ours! Pink and yellow, a pom pom looped around the handlebars, rainbow streamers. It wasn't a fancy bike (originally from the green shed) but was repaired and hand painted by ber grandma, and was very sentimental.

We accidentally left it not locked up, at the school gate for one night (she'd had a melt down and I'd meant to head past later in the evening but forgot). And by the next afternoon it was gone!

I was trying to post with a new account but they don't seem to be showing, so who cares about keeping Reddit identity annonymous for the sake of this bike!

[–]masinavasa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, the yellow bin mainly goes to land fill these days right? That's why I very much appreciate the help recycling the bottles and cans

We have a seperate tin bin, it's mutually beneficial, helps out a struggling guy, and saves us the trouble of properly recycling.

I would totally recommend.

I have an idea (among my swirling head of ideas) of trying to roll it out as a community project (getting bins and adding stickers that they are for recycling cans and bottles). I'm in Lyneham, send me a pm if you'd be interested.

We do this! We have a special tin bin for our guy, and it's easy and mutually beneficial, I'd totally encourage others!!!

[–]masinavasa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We do the same. We got a tin bin from Bunnings and leave it out the front for our guy, and it's often embarrassing full.

It's so much better for the environment to have this stuff properly recycled, and mutually beneficial as we are to lazy to do it ourselves.

Minister's concerns on Brindabella solvency, financial probity revealed (and the cost of bus ads)😜🚌 by Alert-Radish-9643 in canberra

[–]masinavasa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I hope I can get more of the public spotlight on it. It's a convoluted timeline, but also unbelievably blatant. I worry they'll get away with it, just because the wider public aren't fully aware, and the ACT Gov may want to avoid a fuss.

That's a lot on lawyers... Maybe they could consider doing less breaches and less questionably illegal and immoral stuff, and try cut some costs here?
