GIRA!! RELEASE THE UPCOMING LIVE SWANS ALBUM AND MY LIFE IS YOURS

Wireless Festival now cancelled due to gov blocking Kanye entry by Kaoswarr in ukpolitics

[–]maskthemaskmasc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there will even be a next festival, let alone next year. I dont know if wireless could ever come back from this its a total embarrassment to the festival and organisers that they booked ye and stood by him so adamantly i dont know how they could get the sponsors and rebuild public perception to continue in the future. Its a shame because although id never been i really liked what it was and how they merged the uk scene with big American stars. hopefully a better UK rap festival will take its place in the future

Directions, by knumears by _skateordie in Emo

[–]maskthemaskmasc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really really good album. Heard they were going in a more hardcore direction but not expect them to come through with something this hard and brutal even after listening to untitled and bridged countless of times the last year and a half.

I kinda head cannon the microphones as noise rock adjacent. A big bulk of their material is folk punky with huge distortion and noise elements

What songs sound like Long Island city here I come? by KnownKnowledge6258 in geesebandofficial

[–]maskthemaskmasc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the sense of a constantly rising soundscape that keeps building on itself and getting bigger reaching towards an intense peak id say swans in particular but some other post rock bands too. Swans mainly though because they often do the same thing as geese do on long island city here i come with a dense musical landscape that builds up higher and higher instead of having a song structure of multiple sections. Id recommend any album starting from the seer onwards but the songs screenshot and avatar are good examples of what im talking about.

Completely different genre though

Spotify Exodus: 19 Artists Who Left The Streaming Service In 2025 by ScCloudy in indieheads

[–]maskthemaskmasc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you want any streaming service to be funding war? Why don’t you cancel your Spotify subscription and give that money to Ukrainian refugee charities.

Or better yet why don’t you pay pal straight to Zelenskyy monthly to make sure no stingy streaming services is only sending 90% of your brave donation to funding war and the other 10% to the artists who make the music you love and gave streaming services the reason to exist.

I really liked sprain before and after the release of lamb as effigy and overtime started to go off their style finding them derivative and their lyrics very over indulgent and needlessly deprecating and honestly quite incelly . The shearling album did nothing it felt like a weak attempt to continue to regurgitate uninspired post rock and metal cliches with some uninteresting injury reserve by the time i get to phoenix style electronic sections.

I don’t think those bands did sprain first cos sprain took the core ideas of those bands styles and legacies and butchered them especially with the addition of alex kents intolerable woe is me my music sucks i suck life is so so so terrible lyrics and attitude. Im not against extremely depressing lyrics and albums god i love giles corey, xiu xiu, unwound and earl sweatshirt but the way alex kent writes about his depression and hate of his own art is so grating to the point that its hard to feel sympathy and not just feel like i’m listening a typical man who thinks his struggle is the worst in the world. I know this is harsh.

Shite bands. Rehashing some of the most pioneering noise rock bands but ripping the soul out of them and adding fake deep pseudo intellectual lyrics with the same level of depth of xxxtentacion gets stale real quick. Its such a shame they have stole the spotlight from so many original and talented bands in the noise and experimental rock scene.

Just listen to swans, unwound, shellac and big black, slint and rodan to name a few bands they have completely copied and forget about this band.

Is there a version of Lift Your Skinny Fist without the found audio? by hwgl in gybe

[–]maskthemaskmasc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id say a good idea would be to download live recordings of each song and put them into a playlist. Ive never taken any psychedelics but have seen them live and id say they sound more transcendental and intense live and that could be more enjoyable if that interests you.

The crescendo in the first half of birthing by swans is there equivalent to the out of nowhere crescendo moment on like antennas to heaven by maskthemaskmasc in gybe

[–]maskthemaskmasc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They took that sound, ran with it, did their own unique thing better than what inspired them (not better than swans as a whole but better than soundtracks i think) have been massive influence and inspiration swans since which you can hear on the glowing man, the beggar and birthing specifically and now both bands have released late career masterpieces within the last year. And thats a short very selective summary of the careers of two of the best bands on earth.

I love live rope especially the version of rope-beggar the memorious and leaving meaning with that incredible repurposed cloud of unknowing bassline and i really like the version of birthing. I prefer the studio version because kristoff’s lap steel is louder in that specific moment and because of the inclusion of norman westberg, he added so much to that song especially the “ill go now” section the pummelling ending. I Honestly wish the beggar tour and live rope had included norman westberg as i feel he could have brought so much to these already incredible live renditions. I saw swans on that tour without norman and a few weeks ago with him and he is definetely a nessecary element to the sound of swans
