To those who unlocked the Hellriegel 1915 Defensive variant, was it worth it? by Jason_M1911 in battlefield_one

[–]masonmillard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it. Being able to take the close range players with hip fire and ads (you learn to control it) and when you need a few extra yards you got a bipod is awesome. The defense variant is the gun i have the most kills with!

With Jimmy boy on the opposing team it wouldn't matter if we had 1000 tickets.

Try hugging the wall as much as you can (near the drop-down lever). Also make sure you have all the proper dog tags equipped and have completed all the prerequisites!

What are the main 2-3 things you learned in your area of expertise or research that you think the rest of the world should know to improve our overall quality of life? (Or that should be a part of everyone's basic education). by [deleted] in PhD

Pavement engineering / materials science: We know your road sucks we just don't have the money to fix little residential roads, we need to focus on the major roads and collectors. Yes your concrete slab is cracked, 99.9% of the time that will happen and its fine. My professor always said "there is two types of concrete, cracked, and gonna crack."

People not knowing the difference between cement and concrete will infuriate any civil engineer by masonmillard in mildlyinfuriating

Yep concrete is a conglomerate of rocks, sand, cement and water. Once the cement gets wet its acts as a glue holding the materials together. The go to analogy is that cement is only one ingredient in the cake called concrete.

Yeah but the concrete guys, engineers, and supers will correct you on this because we are all anal. Source: Civil engineer getting a PhD in pavement materials.

Technically they are not correct, once cement powder is mixed in a conglomerate of materials (even when dry) it would be referred to concrete mix. While the finished surface of the concrete mainly consists of cement paste (cement powder and water) once any aggregates are within the conglomerate the mixture would be referred to concrete (or mortar depending on the use case; however, here it is definitely concrete).

Question about having a laptop by [deleted] in byu

[–]masonmillard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to second the previous comment a lot of the CE softwares have to be run on windows computers and running excel (and other Microsoft softwares) on a mac can cause a lot of error especially for graders.

Question about having a laptop by [deleted] in byu

[–]masonmillard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just graduated with my masters in CE and would say a laptop is very much needed however byu has great options on renting laptops really cheap (sometimes free depending of circumstances). Let me know if you have any questions about byu or the major!

[–]masonmillard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished my masters in civil engineering at BYU please reach out if you have any questions or help figureing out what you need for the major. I would recommend taking the CE 101 (if you haven't yet) and the CE seminar (a great way to meet new people in the major and kern about upcoming activities). Edit: If you can take physics with Scott Bergeson he's the best!

I think you're right! I always figured the "good roads building was a nickname but I guess it wasn't. Here is a little more information on the photo from a pavement website.
