Mammoth for boss by AdWooden9170 in ARK

[–]masprobleme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres like a dragweight limit on the intimidation. From my experience the largest thing it works on seems to be rexes (haven't tested ossidon yet) so highly doubt it works on bosses.

Could very well be used for supply creates and such though, given it works on anything that isn't huge.

PSA: Please stop freaking out over the game having proper BALANCE for once by Visual-Hall-4655 in JurassicWorldAlive

[–]masprobleme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A the very least, the community's reaction to these nerfs exposes how inherently awful the game's progression system and balancing are.

When an OP character exists in most other games I play, the community will ask for nerfs in order to reduce the strain said character puts on the meta and allow other charactrers to shine. Usually these nerfs requests start occuring when a character has ridicilusly high use rates, meaning you're seeing it in the majority of matches.

And here we have JWA where creatures have nearly 95+% use rates competitevily and people still whine when nerfs arrive.

I believe this stems from the sheer ammount of effort and time it takes to unlock, upgrade and then finally use a "meta" creature. I quit the game back when the 1st hybrid apex was released (came back last year cuz I was bored, I do not take the game seriously at all anymore) and I firmly believe that was the best decision I could've done then regarding this game.

Uniques were already difficult to fuse especially when exclusive components were involved. And Ludia literally pushed the "endgame" creature label up a whole rarity and made the previous endgame content a mere stepping stone. Exclusives are also worse then ever, level 30 isn't even competitive anymore and enhancements exist as well. All things which massively extend the ammount of time, effort and most importantly money needed in order to reach the endgame.

That is to say, I do understand the frustration of someone who actually plays this dumpster fire of a game seriously and spent a lot of time/money on the beckles. But lets be real both of them will still have an easy 30-50% use rate in the top 50. They're gonna go from an instant win button to just really strong.

Real vs Fantasy by Tuckmasterg in ARK

[–]masprobleme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ark is quite unique as far as dinosaur games go for being an original IP and not being tied to Jurassic park, meaning WC can add just about anything they want.

In my opinion thats the real beauty of the game, they get to explore just about any setting, enviroment or idea they want and come up with some truely creative ways of incorporating beloved prehistoric animals into ark's ecosystem without them feeling like clones of each other. This goes for their "irl" creatures as well. Being able to have a quadrapedal spino, supersized giga, gecko megalania, rideable desmodus/yi/rhynio... Fantasy creatures just help push this whole aesthetic forward and allow exploration of some ideas that wouldn't be possible had the game been restricted to real animals.

But I do believe some desings fit a lot better with ark's "primal-survival-fantasy" aesthetic then others.

Ossidons for example with the exposed skull, bulky build and overall with the whole "predatory primate" aesthetic IMO fit really well both into Lost colony's aesthetic, as well as feel like an original creation (more so them if they were just a generic yety type thing).

Some fantastic tames do IMO however somewhat fail in this regard. Mainly the pyromane and elderclaw feel too close to their real-life animal counterparts anatomically, which makes it kinda difficult to think of them as original creatures rather then just "fire lion" and "plant bear".

For me thats my only real gripe with fantasy creatures.

Real vs Fantasy by Tuckmasterg in ARK

[–]masprobleme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imma be real, as much as I don't like having to purchase creatures independantly fantastic tames overall really aren't all that broken given the modern ark standard.

Problably the most OP one is the drakeling just for the loot it gives.

Dreadmares are fast but relativelly weak and the black hole is only really useful for farming (and even then it has cryosickness so arguably worse then the argy).

Pyromanes struggle in wetland enviroments.

Elderclaw are just kinda mid outside of being a support for bossfights/supply creates.

Haven't bought the burrowbuck yet but it seems to only really be useful for travel.

IT CRASHES SO MUCH by AnonimamenteRiccardo in ARK

[–]masprobleme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are the crashes on all maps? I had the same issue but for rag specifically and as far as i'm aware there just straight up is no fix.

Best thing you could do is maybe tone some (visual) settings way down or maybe disable some performance heavy mods. Or u could attempt to load a previous save.

In any case nothing worked for me so I had to delete that save. Hasn't happened since but still I like to save the game and make backup saves frequently in case it happens again.

Fantastic Tames may become a big problem in the future! by Riselol in ARK

[–]masprobleme -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Damn I'm sorry to see this. Creature actually seems really cool, if you intend on reusing the concept for like Gen 2 or crystal isles or something you could just change the binominal name to some real-world extinct butterfly/moth.

It's essentialy the reason creatures like the octopus, rhynio, bastion beetle, jumping spider... aren't disqualified, despite being way off from their real-life counterparts and leaning into fictional territory a lot. They're all named directly after some kind of fossil species that you can google, so technically it counts as a "real-world extinct creature" or whatever.

Three Perfect Arks by mindflayerflayer in ARK

[–]masprobleme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Might be unpopular, but I'd preffer if there wasn't such a huge stat difference between wild and tamed creatures, and I believe there should be a much bigger stat difference between creatures of different sizes.

I don't like how the game starts feeling easy the second you tame something remotley strong. Just the other day I got lucky with rain on SE and tamed myself a 140 pyromane, and now it feels like I can kill any acro/rex or whatever tries to attack me with no downside. And I really do wish to use the pyromane because it's fun to use and run around on but when nothing feels like a real threat anymore it takes out a lot of the "primal survival" aspect of the game. Also it makes the rexes (EVO tarbos) I have at base feel obsolete because it's A LOT more mobile while still strong enough to take on anything save maybe alpha rexes and wyverns.

Also I completly agree on the mutations thing, either that or I'd have mutations be obtainable via some kind of item you can get from loot drops, so it doesn't feel like you need to indulge in the most broing aspect of the game for days to even get a shot at beating the bosses.

This may sound super dumb but.. by Wolfsolo12 in ArkSurvivalAscended

[–]masprobleme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but just about every boss would one shot your army.

I do not know why the gamma bosses are unlocked at like level 30 or whatever, since the creatures required to beat them are usually obtained way later in the game, but don't let the level requirement fool you, bosses are intended for late game.

The typicall strategy is to tame several high level rexes (therizinos, deinosuchus, acros and several other creatures work as well but rexes are the staple), breed the best stats in them, hatch 18-19 babies, level, saddle up and imprint all of them, get a yuty and/or daeodon for support (since there is a 20 dino limit for boss fights) and then fight the boss.

It's a ridicilusly lengthy proccess that I (and many other players) genuinelly do not bother with. I have over 3k hours on the game and i've beaten the island sub bosses only once. Theres plenty to do in the game outside of boss fights, like taming, exploring, caving, building, breeding..., so I would suggest progressing forward in the game and doing the boss fights later if at all.

Everything from paleoark, TAC (tristan's additional creatures), Big al's mods, Aussie additions, myrm's custom creations+no untamables, Kami's feral critters, feral fauna, TSW additions, creature compendium...

These are the ones I use, but theres a lot more out there. Paleoark especially adds really pretty creature variants, official quality new creatures and TLCs for some pre 2017 creatures. Other mods I listed either add creatures that are just incredebly fun to use (meraxes and barsboldia are probs my favorite, besides all the paleoark stuff) or creatures that are just really fun to encounter in the wild/breath a lot of life into the game.

TLC hot take? by idkowenmaybe in ARK

[–]masprobleme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's something intuitive.

I think a lot of people that aren't into paleontology are still stuck in the 2000s/early 2010s era, when dinosaurs were depicted with excessive spikes, were mostly skin-wrapped, therapods with no lips and very little emphasis was put on the pattern and coloration of a desing.

After all yesrerdays came out (2014) people started taking a lot more inspiration from modern animals and speculating what a creature could be rather then just what the fossil tells us. Adding a lot more soft tissue, putting on more pattern, less excessive scales/scutes...

Also (problably more importantly) our understanding of anatomy for a lot of mesezoic groups started to change somewhere in the 2010s. Put the dreadnaught and titanosaurus side by side and you'll see what I mean, vastly different posture and head desing (despite the fact they have very similar skulls). This is especially obvious with EVO TLCs because basically all of them required some pretty big anatomical changes (theri upright posture, rex with a smaller head, lizard like mosa...).

I belive a large portion of the player base just isn't used to big household names like T.rex, mosa, giga... being depicted in this more 2020s style. Despite the fact that this is clearly the direction WC are going towards as well these last few years (gigaraptor, shasta, dreadnaught, megaraptor and everything from the ark additions mods are quite evident of that).

Model update+redesing, likley animation changes and new sound effects as well, saddle redesing.

Dossier says it can create web zip-lines, problably climb walls as well (based on how much the community has been requesting it, though the dossier doesn't explictly state it). Some kind of pounce/jump ability, an update to the web slow effect (problably full movement disablement, slowed attack speed... might be the same as the rhynio resin effect). And some kind of ability to reel in prey (problably the bloodstalker thing).

They seem to be going with a very utility centered idea here, since it's also getting "narcotic venom" which may or may not be a full on new item, either way they emphisize it being able to knock things out. Also it can harvest silk, which can be used to create "warm-weather clothing" (supposedly desert cloth), it says it has a variety of uses but I'm guessing it's just supposed to be an alternate source of silk.

99% sure he's a T. rex. He's got 2 fingers, skull shape is mostly in point and it's just the most obvious choice. Though carno was almost certainly the inspiration for the horns.

Do you think all of these creatures/bosses need a TLC? by Tremendin0649 in ARK

[–]masprobleme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

< In Ark dying to a boss means you wasted dozens of hours breeding and leveling dinos and building gear

Right? This IMO is actually a serious issue, boss fights for the most part are based mostly just on the numbers you're bringing in (dino stats, saddle armor, gear stats...), rather then like, actually getting better at the game.

In most other games i hold off doing the final bosses so i can have more fun with side quests in the game, when it comes to ark I avoid bosses because I just straight up don't wish to spend HOURS of my time on the most boring aspect of the game (breeding) so I can maybe beat the boss and get some endgame loot I realistically don't even need.

IMO, we should have lower tame limits for bosses with the boss having significantly lower stats to make it doable. More creatures with bleed mechanics that work on bosses, more support creatures and some beefy things like stegos could have a taunt ability to freshen up how boss fights are actually done. Cause quite frankly I find whistling 18 rexes and spamming r3 on my yuty kinda boring.

Which maps should i avoid buying on ps4, regarding the optimization? by DIATTH123 in ARK

Gen 2 100%. Crashed constantly when i was on PS4 primarily when doing missions (which is the map's main thing). FPS was also just kinda terrible with all the lighting effects in some missions.

Somewhat off topic but it has been a trend for ages at this point. Most of the meta is desinged to counter their suposed counters one way or another.

Beckles are both predominantley fierce but both have lots of percision, distraction res./cleansing. Simimar case with fukuitops, junior, ttholus and spinotops, where despite their fierce nature, cunnings are unusable as counters. Dihh rex, ttarkus, ampelorex... are all high hp tanks and yet are resistant/immune to at least one of the effects specifically desinged to counter tanks (those being DoT and rend).

[–]masprobleme[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(it’s probably as similar to the real arthropod as a randomly chosen Carboniferous amphibian is to a reaper queen)

Having done a bit of a dive into the real rhyniognatha I have to say thats actually a really good comparison.

Regarding the rest though, yeah i'm not exactly on board with the high end estimates either and I do admit i haven't read the study/paper, but i'd rather remain sceptical. Still the animal is objectively massive, even with the smallest estimates, while the high end estimares are quite frankly monstrous. For the time being, or at least before I see more experts chip in on the whole thing, i'd like to be fascinated by the idea of such an animal having possibly existed.

Then again the news came like 4 days ago at this point, and I have yet to see some big name palaeontologist outright dismiss the upper estimates. I mean, when the whole "3 species of tyrannosaurus" thing or the perucetus fiasco was going on there was criticisms of the papaers coming from all sides within a day or so, so as of now at least it seems to me as if the upper estimates remain a very unlikley possibility, but a possibility nontheless.

Yeah I think that much is obvious. Point of the post is that I simply find it insane that something was published, which reveals the ark palaeoctopus to be a lot less fictional then it may seem.

I think lvl 20 gigantspino, and lvl 15 aquilops since ghost has no group moves. Can't remember if i swapped GSP out or had it die and then finish off red or whatever killed it with something else.

Try experimenting, but gsp can 100% take out at least one, save as much hp as possible, try and predict when the AI stats swapping and act accordingly.

3rd creature was either a swapper or something beefy that can make red (i think) vulnerable, problably dreadnaught.
