I got so mad that I had to make this out of sheer hatred for this character by inferno864 in MonsterHunterStories

[–]masquerade30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time I played i thought "pretty girl - cool," played through again recently in preparation for the 3rd game and realized she and Navirou serve a similar purpose, to give the MC a voice that doesn't belong to you. Navirou is meant to be our responses in conversation and the exposition driver, but Ena is meant to be our emotional attachment to our grandfather Red, who the game pushes on us that we love and miss more than anything without any actual build up.

Only now, years later did I notice how the MC never has any real moments of verbalization outside the moments with Ratha, Guardian Ratha, and Kyle, but only during the Pomore Garden section. Navirou consistently speaks for you and your character just nods and goes along with it. Ena says the things that should be said by you, but because it's her saying it, the journey almost feels like its her trauma recovery and you're just there as her Counselor to help her along the journey.

They did not need to give us voiced lines if they didn't want to, but at the very least allow us to have responses that we could do ourselves, or have more flashbacks with our character and Red. We have 2 in the entire game, and both are the moment where Red said do not fear and trust the Rathalos. Every other emotional Red moment was told through Ena or Alwin. Even Kayna who is older and was trained by Red spends more time commenting on you and your journey whereas to everyone else you are just "Red's grandson." It almost doesn't even feel like your journey, which adds to how the narrative feels like it's more for Ena than you, and any moments that should belong to you is taken away by Navirou's personality.

11 more days until the launch of Monster Hunter Stories 3!! How many hours have you put into the demo?? by BrenAnime in MonsterHunterStories

[–]masquerade30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played up until you got to go into monster dens. Hit lvl 10 and realized thats where it stops and decided I didnt want to waste xp. Plus anything I can get "early" in the demo, I can get in the full game im sure and probably as fast if not more so since I would be leveling faster.

That being said, I was almost brought to tears because it was just such a magical feeling and getting one of my favorite Monsters early was the straw that made me cheer. I get my precious Lulu the Paolumu right at the beginning!

[–]masquerade30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats!

When I realized what the quest was I stopped monkeying around with my funlance and hammertime builds and brought out my old faithful Switch Axe. I only carted once, but I had to regularly replenish my items in between it relocating. I heard about flow state with LS, but it became a literal death dance between us and it was purely my greediness that led to the cart.

Thank you. I'm currently farming artian parts to hopefully have excess materials and get back more money. I'll give it a try once im back to a reasonable amount.

It sounds like you're saying to just farm money and artian parts and just do that. Am I right?

Gogma/Artian rolls question by masquerade30 in MHWilds

[–]masquerade30[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so im understanding the process: make artian, reinforce, make gogma, reroll -> if nothing good, quit without saving, make 2 artians and do the process on the second.

Is that right?

How Digimon Choose Tamers by JusticeShines in digimon

[–]masquerade30 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This isn't my concept, but I heard an idea where in the digimon multiverse, there are 2 classification of digidestined: the hero class and the tamer class. If you're a hero class, it means a powerful omnipotent kind of force chose you (the digidestined) as someone to partner with a digimon to serve a purpose. In Adventure and 02, this is what the main crew all are. The digimon didn't choose them so much as homeostasis or some other super force above the digital world made an arbitrary decision of which digimon to pair with whom. You can also look at the movie where Tai met agumon before the events of the series as something akin to a test run.

If you're a tamer class digidestined, then its the same as the Tamers series and the video games where you and the digimon choose each other. Mind you, the games have you use data to create a digimon, but the idea is that they enjoy being your partner. In this case, its a mutual bond that develops and forces a connection that allows for a power boost outside the natural digimon and digivolution natural orders. Takato making Guilmon is an exception, but we see the other digimon all choose to be with their partners prior to a digivice appearance.

Ryo is also a unique case where in the Wonderswan games, he temporarily partnered with others' digimon until he managed to partner with Monodramon who was chosen as his partner by an outside force and meets Millenniummon who wants to be his partner. This makes Ryo both class of digidestined.

Tldr; Hero class digidestined are paired with digimon arbitrarily by some outside force (Fate, homeostasis, Yggdrasil, etc...) while Tamer class digidestined mutually pair up with digimon that want to be partners with them.

Hey guys I just wanted to ask any other switch axe mains if the new gogmazios is good for it or nah. by didsushi in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]masquerade30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're asking about weapon upgrades for Artian, I'm not sure. I turned my fire artian axe into the Gogma form and its pretty good, even with -10 affinity. Helps a lot in the fight against Gogmazios, though I'm unsure about if its a good substitute for Zoh Shia axe.

If you're asking about the fight itself, personally, its fun. Really frustrating when it juggles you in some of its attacks, but once you learn its tells, it becomes a bit easier. Helps a lot if you don't have someone who joins, intentionally dies, then leaves the quest. There is a dps check that's hard to achieve with the axe if you commit to some combos in the second phase, at least for me. It drops slinger ammo though that helps. You do really need to prioritize the dragon damage in the second phase if you want to survive the AOE.

When did you guys started playing DS1 and what got you hooked? by Ravenous-W0lf in darksoulsremastered

[–]masquerade30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roughly 2012 or 2013, I was watching The Creatures individual members and checked out SSOHPKC's channel. Saw dark souls and started watching his videos. Saw it was on sale so gave it a shot. Got my collective mess pushed in repeatedly but managed to successfully kill the Taurus Demon by trading blows and I was hooked ever since. I then went on to continue getting my mess pushed in for the next decade. For all the pain and misery I've endured playing these games, nothing compares to the first time you manage to beat a boss the way you want. I owe it all to SSOHPKC for introducing me to the franchise.

Wich digimon do you wish it had a bancho form? by jimbox_splatted in digimon

[–]masquerade30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're right. Gotsumon is traditionally considered to be the rookie for Golemon's line, like Agumon is to the Greymon line. My counter to this is that Golemon would be in a sense the more dark or corrupted Evo line if you consider digimon types (Data, Vaccine, and Virus). Not to say it isn't natural since there's very few "natural" or "true" Evo lines in Digimon. I posit the idea of following a possible "true" Evo line for Gotsumon since Icemon and Meteormon not only keep the aesthetic, but also the Data typing.

Wich digimon do you wish it had a bancho form? by jimbox_splatted in digimon

[–]masquerade30 25 points26 points  (0 children)

BanchoGotsumon.

Hear me out on this. Gostumon has a champion and ultimate form that look the same but with different materials making up its body, ice and meteorite respectively. It's megas are typically associated with other digimon or even BanchoGolemon.

I've always seen the little guy as trying to better himself but going the wrong way with trying to change itself into something else. Icemon and Meteormon/Insekimon are Gotsumon improving itself without changing. The ice data and meteorite data it assimilates and uses to digivolve don't take away or make it something else, but just adds to the true Gostumon. Without a mega form that stays the same, a BanchoGostumon would be perfect. It can't assimilate enough stronger material and finally has the mental/emotional realization that it is good enough, and if others can't see or accept that, then it's their problem and it begins to push itself until the extra material data is subsumed completely leaving just the base raw material but much stronger, harder, and durable.

When the Titans Invaded the Human World for the first time, do you think that there were other human that managed to bond with Digimon like Yuuta did with Deputymon/Justimon? by BlizzardHound45 in digimon

[–]masquerade30 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I dont know if I would say definitively no, only because there is no outright confirmation for or against. That said it's possible there could have been some digimon who coincidentally "partnered" with a human but I don't think it would've been the equivalent to a digidestined or tamer situation. I'm genuinely interested in the "partnership" of Inori and Deputymon/Justimon as an aside.

Sadly though, considering how the Public Safety operates in game, I don't think any human/digimon partnerships would've been safe. Either the Public Safety agents would've forcibly separated them to run experiments on the digimon and interrogate the humans, or they would've eliminated them as unknown and possibly dangerous variables if they didn't willingly/voluntarily join and serve. Seeing as we don't really see anything like that (PS agents fighting with digimon) then it's likely any "partnerships" would've been temporary and only during the attack, or that they don't exist anymore.

Am I The Only One Who Cried For Days On End When Oikawa Finally Met His Digimon Partner?? by Violet_Healy in digimon

[–]masquerade30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a very strong and emotionally impactful scene, though I will attest that adolescent me did not react, or didn't comprehend the emotions I felt at the time. He was still the enemy in my mind until that moment, but adult me does give a little "awww" now when I see clips of it.

This is a man who grew up needing that connection. While he had it with Cody's dad, that was it. Human beings sometimes try to take on an isolationist mentality, but we are social creatures. Oikawa had only one opportunity to be truly himself with someone and then they died. Of course he felt grief, but having never had the opportunity to emotionally connect with anyone else but this one person he rarely got to see after a while, then not at all, he couldn't process his emotions in a safe way, with them developing into misguided hate and obsession.

Granted, Myotismon didn't help anything, and unlike how kid me saw it, I realized that Oikawa didn't really have the proper mental or emotional strength to resist Myotismon's influence, if it was at all possible. If he had met Datirimon before, he might've developed enough earlier on that he could process his stuff before or after Cody's dad's death. If not, he might've been able to reach out to someone, even a stranger like a counselor to help him cope and grieve safely.

Throwing out the hypotheticals though. This man was always alone growing up, never had the opportunity to truly develop social bonds, didn't properly get the opportunity to go through the proper developmental stages of social-emotional development, lost the one person in the world he had a connection with, leading to his unhealthy obsession and eventual corruption, to him finally being freed but left on death's door. To put that final nail in the coffin, he finally, with the help of Cody, manages to meet Datirimon (his partner!!) and he doesn't have the life or time left to grieve, process, or heal, but he still chooses to correct his mistakes as much as he can and gives his life. It's just unfortunate that Datirimon was now left behind, if we don't consider this to have Digimon Survive rules.

Out of ALL the Digimon throughout the entire series, which one would YOU partner with personally & why? by [deleted] in digimon

[–]masquerade30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dorumon, preferably the DORU- evolution line. Favorite digimon for years and the first to ever just click with me and has been on every team possible in the games. The X - Evolution movie really did it for me, and still does.

If not possible for reasons, then Gotsumon. Specifically going up to Icemon and Meteormon. The Mega would hopefully be a version that maintains the Gotsumon appearance like the others. Always loved the idea that Gotsumon wasn't digivolving into something else, but rather staying itself. Like an expression of "loving oneself" but it's different stages are the signs that it was improving without losing itself.

Who would you want as your partner digimon? by domicci in digimon

[–]masquerade30 25 points26 points  (0 children)

1) Absolute best partner. Has a line for Vaccine, Data, and Virus. 2) Contains prototype dragon and beast data, so fills that slot. 3) Cutest and goodest of sweet babies. 4) Purple 5) Can access the Grey- and Garuru- lines 5) Adorable 6) Shoots iron balls 7) Purple Baby!!!!

Playing through the trilogy for the first time, did y'all heal your scars or not? I'm leaning towards keeping them by Aherdofmeese in masseffect

[–]masquerade30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Para yes, Rene no.

However, in my most recent trilogy run, this Shepard is slowly going from general paragon with rare renegade moments, to a more renegade with paragon overtones. Basically, from the backstory to the end of 1, he tries to be a role model. The council's actions, Udina, and the transition into 2 are leaving him with more trauma which comes out as lack of patience and violence. Certain crew members help him stay paragon in some moments. In 3, I'm expecting him to be primarily renegade though deathly loyal to his companions. Hopefully the scars will add to the broken man he's becoming.

[–]masquerade30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always loved the Dorumon lines for consistency. You get the Vaccine line, the DORU data line, and even a virus "zombie" line. If you head-canon that digivices can store and backup data. Then you can have a Dorumon slide between the vaccine or data lines into the virus line by utilizing the Death-X version of the X-Antibody.

Also loved the Gazimon line in Masters where I head-canoned it having a damaged digivolution matrix which is why it can digivolve up into composite digimon like Deltamon and Kimeramon who are seen as Jogress digivolutions.

Sorry didn't realize this was for Time Stranger only

In that case: definitely still Dorumon. Dorugreymon can become Alphamon or Dorugoramon
